snakehead26 Posted May 20, 2023 Author Report Posted May 20, 2023 LOL Southeastern won and UIW also threatening to add on in the 9th. Quote

If Southeastern and UIW would win Lamar would be in a tie with New Orleans for 3rd and we own the tiebreaker with them... and Southeastern has tied now 6-6. Looks like this is exactly what is about to happen. UIW adding to lead in top of 9th. snakehead26 1 Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted May 20, 2023 Report Posted May 20, 2023 McNeese, AMCC, and Northwestern are now all 12-12. They are all 3-3 in the 3way head to head. No idea what the SLC next step is in the tiebreaker. This is big as 1 of the 3 will be "in the tournament" and the other 2 will face off in the 1 game play in on Tuesday. Quote

So they would look at Nicholls, UIW, Lamar. Northwestern is 2-1 versus Nicholls and the other two are 1-2 so Northwestern would be the higher seed. Then I think the next seed would be determined by the head to head between McNeese and Northwestern. That would be the single elimination game. Of course who knows I the Southland site is not so good. Quote
spidersal Posted May 20, 2023 Report Posted May 20, 2023 Looks like. 4 seed New Orleans won the series vs Lamar and that is only 2 teams at 13-11 Quote

I get confused with all the times I have looked at things as well. Really doesn't matter as the 3 and 4 seeds play in the first round. Hang in there Spider, I know today's outcomes almost made you smile. You can still complain about the season overall and keep things normal in here. 😀 Quote
spidersal Posted May 20, 2023 Report Posted May 20, 2023 Oh thanks, I was thinking that it was Northwestern that Lamar had won the 1st series Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted May 20, 2023 Report Posted May 20, 2023 McNeese vs AMCC on Tuesday. Lamar plays at 2:30 on Wednesday against UNO. Quote
snakehead26 Posted May 20, 2023 Author Report Posted May 20, 2023 darn my seedings came out correctly on that Northwestern. Lamar couldn't have asked for a better day today. It really all depends who plays well next week. I think any of the teams could win the tournament. Actually, I expected much more out of this season as well especially from the bats. So I have not been happy with a lot of the outcomes myself. Quote

Yes, that was a jab at both of you. Overall, it has been a bit disappointing, but they do have the talent to win the tournament. Personal note. While the tournament is fun, it is the IMO the worst possible way to determine the conference rep in a 1 bid conference. Week after week of conference play and then determine the rep with a few days of play is silly even though it has been around and in multiple sports for who knows how long. Again, my basically useless opinion. Great day for Lamar and just having a little fun with you guys. See you all at 2:30 on Wednesday. Quote
spidersal Posted May 21, 2023 Report Posted May 21, 2023 I agree with you. I don’t like the idea of the tournament winner outcome either. You play all of those conference games and determine the regional qualifier with just a few tournament games. IMO, the conference champion should get the bid and do away with the tournament ( at least on all the conferences that only get 1 team to regionals) Quote

IMO, the conference champion should get the bid and do away with the tournament ( at least on all the conferences that only get 1 team to regionals) That was originally known as the "Lamar rule". Lamar baseball and basketball were so good in the late 70s and early 80s that Lamar finished first in the conference standings almost every year. So the SLC joined the bigger conferences with the tournament to try to keep Lamar from getting the bid every year. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted May 23, 2023 Report Posted May 23, 2023 Hoping Lamar can win the tournament, but not sure which of 2 reasons is the strongest...1) Lamar grad and fan rooting for the alma mater or 2) seeing how the Spider will complain if they do so! SpiderSal, if you need to curse me for that one, I'll take it. Quote
spidersal Posted May 23, 2023 Report Posted May 23, 2023 I will only complain if they lose 2 straight. I believe since Davis has been at Lamar they have only won 1 tournament game Quote
snakehead26 Posted May 23, 2023 Author Report Posted May 23, 2023 Yes, since 2017 they are 0-4 in the SLC tournament. They did manage to win their first round game in the WAC last year and finished 1-2 there. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted May 24, 2023 Report Posted May 24, 2023 So far, no good. UNO pitcher looking good and Lamar has only 1 hit. Haven't put much in play hard against him. Down 4-1.. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted May 24, 2023 Report Posted May 24, 2023 Weather delay still ongoing. Leaving it with them. Will track score and return tomorrow win or lose. Quote
spidersal Posted May 25, 2023 Report Posted May 25, 2023 Well it looks like Lamar made a safe trip to Lake Charles, however someone forget to load the bats. The pitching was actually pretty good except for the starter, but the hitting stumbled As usual Davis teams are now 1-7 in conference tournament play and I look for them to be 1-8 after tomorrow and headed home for the summer The interesting question is will the new AD make changes in the baseball and softball programs or will they keep Davis and Hooks and continue to settle for poor performing programs KF89 1 Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted May 25, 2023 Report Posted May 25, 2023 Win or go home time. First pitch in approximately 5 minutes. Great weather here today. Hopefully the Cards sent someone home last night to find a bat or 2 after yesterday. We shall see. Quote
snakehead26 Posted May 25, 2023 Author Report Posted May 25, 2023 runners 2nd and 3rd with no outs and still can't score...sad. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted May 25, 2023 Report Posted May 25, 2023 Leaving runners on quite a bit. Hit into 2 double plays. Runner thrown out at the plate "by my a mile." Not looking good at all. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted May 25, 2023 Report Posted May 25, 2023 Ugly offense continues. 9 outs to go and chasing 4. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted May 25, 2023 Report Posted May 25, 2023 16 innings of play in the tournament. Birds have scored 1 run. Harry Doyle quote come to mind? Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted May 25, 2023 Report Posted May 25, 2023 3 outs left. Quite possibly one of the more disappointing seasons in recent years. Hope the portal or JUCO ranks help out. Very little position players return and it may be time even if time for some wasn't up. Quote
