BEAUMONT - Lamar University had little time to dwell on Friday's loss at Mississippi as the Cardinals returned home and immediately had to prepare for the Wyoming Cowboys, who are visiting the Montagne Center Monday at 7 p.m. in non-conference men's basketball action.

Lamar (1-1) is coming off a 108-70 loss at Mississippi after opening the season with a 103-64 home win over LeTourneau University. Wyoming is also 1-1 on the season. The Cowboys are coming off a 76-65 loss at Denver on Friday and opened the season with an 87-63 home win over Colorado-Colorado Springs.

This will be the fourth meeting between Lamar and Wyoming with the Cowboys holding a 3-0 all-time series advantage. Wyoming won last year's meeting, 69-64, in Laramie on Dec. 16, 2006. The Cowboys also won the only previous meeting in Beaumont, 79-71, on Dec. 21, 1989.

Senior Currye Todd leads Lamar in scoring at 14.0 points per game. He is shooting 41.7 percent from the field, 54.5 percent from three-point range and is 2-of-2 at the free throw line. Junior Justin Nabors is second on the team in scoring at 13.5 ppg and leads the team in rebounding at 8.5 rpg. He is shooting 60 percent (12-of-20) from the field.

Senior Lamar Sanders is averaging 12.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg. His is shooting a robust 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the field and 75 percent (6-of-8) from the free throw line. He also leads the team with six steals. Senior Darren Hopkins is averaging 11.5 ppg and junior Jay Brown is averaging 10.5 ppg to give the Cardinals five double-digit scorers.

As a team, Lamar is averaging 86.5 ppg and is shooting 44.4 percent from the field, 31.8 percent from 3-point range and 75.6 percent from the free throw line. The Cardinals have a plus-0.5 scoring margin (86.5-86.0) and a plus-3.0 rebound margin (44.0-41.0).

Wyoming features one of the best backcourts in the country in senior Brad Jones and junior Brandon Ewing. Ewing leads the Cowboys in scoring at 20.0 ppg and is averaging 4.0 rpg and 3.0 apg. He is shooting 50 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from 3-point range and 76.9 percent from the free throw line.

Jones is averaging 15.5 ppg, is tied for the team lead in rebounding at 7.5 rpg and leads the team at 6.5 apg. Ryan Dermody is the only other Cowboy averaging double-figures at 10.5 ppg and is tied for the team lead in rebounding at 7.5 rpg.

As a team, Wyoming is averaging 76.0 ppg and is shooting 44.5 percent from the field, 30.2 percent from 3-point range and 64.1 percent from the free throw line. The Cowboys have a plus-6.5 scoring margin (76.0-69.5) and a minus-5.0 rebound margin (34.5-39.5).

Hopefully there is a large turnout for this game. My family has relatives in from Fort Worth so there should be about 10 more people in our section cheering on the Cards.
