Silsbee 70 Houston Washington 76/FINAL

Recommended Posts

Jones could provide a consistent outside shot. That would free up Miller and Harris.

Everything is tentative. A lot could happen between now and next season. Next season could be a good time, or it could be back to not so good times.

BTW coach Vince Grayson is seen as a basketball whisperer in North Houston.  He has some height coming back.  This season for them ain't over with for them.

If a team plays some consistent basketball against FF they can be beat, at least this season. Maybe next season as well.

Johnson is the QB . Y'all realize he's only a freshman right. He's 6'2 already with time to grow and get a lot better still.

I think the next-gen Tigers after 24 will be fine. Jones, Johnson, Adams, Arline, yet another Cartwright and plenty more. The newer Cartwright looks like he'll be a little taller than the past few.

I could see us making region for at least 5 more years.

Some of y’all told me this group was going to be as good or better than the Adams, McCain, Bush group.  I found that hard to believe.  Results aside, that has never passed the eye test with me.  Thought it was unfair to this group to put that type of weight on their shoulders. Still do. Really good bunch who still has one more year to leave their mark and I hope they do.  But as I said when they were coming in as freshman.  Really good group of kids but let’s slow our roll.  They aren’t THAT.

Conversely, we did have a group that does meet or surpass that group.  And they are COACHED by a Silsbee guy.  Go get that three peat Wolves!

The group with Bush, Adams, McCain, and Barnes was almost once in a lifetime. The 2016-17 Tigers had 10 kids that played college ball in basketball or football.

A Silsbee guy but very familiar to Beaumont.  Many years coaching here…

Not sure those other Tiger teams would have ever beat FF or this year's BTW, but we'll never know. Things are a little harder now than they were back then.

Looking at what cost us this game with the bad 3 point shooting and turnovers, a Bush is exactly what would have fixed that.

The entire core of those Silsbee teams were b-ball players only too. We'd get maybe two kids from the football team, but everyone else was 100 percent focused on basketball.

Yeah they would have beat Booker T. This years Booker T i don't think would have beat those 2016-19 Yates teams.

Almost yea but Michael McCain, Newton, Jones, Tyler, Barnes, and Martin played football. Tre Lowe as well.

Absolutely!! Coach Green played at McNeese St with Joe Dumas. He was an assistant coach in Silsbee before taking the head coach job in Kountze. From there he took Kountze, BMT Central, Hightower, and North Shore to state. This would be his 3rd time with Untied. With 2 titles at United and 1 at North Shore, this would give Coach Green 4 state titles. I. Aire pulling for him to get that 3 Peat.

Most folks outside of Silsbee don’t realize what an unbelievable floor general Bush was. With a PG of his abilities on this years club they’d be special. He just wouldn’t let em lose.

Very true.  And I know most of us will never forget that Yates game in Huntsville.

And Devon McCain’s performance against Carter in the State Championship game was one for the ages and one of the all time great performances at state.

The Yates game in Huntsville was better than most college games. Pace was unreal, athleticism was unique for a high school game to say the least.

2017 game was unbelievable. The 2018 game as well. The pace and skill set of the Carter game was close to the same.

I’d been hearing about Devon. When I first saw him he was a 5’8” water bug, dashing all over the court.  “Is that the guy everyone is talking about?”  Then he came down and hit some swirling lay up against a really big post from Bellaire. The ball rolled around the rim 3 or 4 times before it went in Devon was headed to the other end. He knew it was going in without looking.

Then Devon grew to 6’3” 210lbs, with guard skills.  If he had a stop & pop outside shot he’d be on national TV like Kendric Davis, making a $ million in NIL.

A play that I’ll never forget. Devon is down low on the block, battling for rebounds against Carter in the state championship game. He makes an outlet pass to Chris Martin who is dribbling down full court with his right hand with a  Carter defender on his left flank. Chis scored with a fundamentally perfect right hand lay up. Could he have done that from the left? I hope so. Plays like that help win championships.
