AggiesAreWe Posted March 5, 2023 Report Posted March 5, 2023 After 51 straight years of attending the boys basketball state tournament, my streak will end this season as I will not be attending this year. My goal since I started going was to attend as many as my dad did who started taking me when I was 8 years old in 1972. My dad ended up attending 50 straight, his last time going in 2007. I made 51 straight last season. My priorities have changed over the years and my interest has waned some the last couple of years. Got grand sons to run around with now (T-ball, soccer, etc.) along with hanging out at the beach. With the wife and I retired now, just got other things I want to do. Actually I'll be hitting the new Horseshoe casino next week. I enjoyed each and every trip to the state tourney. Great memories with my dad and got to see some great basketball. I have been truly blessed. I may attend another state tourney (particularly if Silsbee goes) but the streak had to end sometime. Will miss hanging out with coaches, officials, media and fans that attended on a regular basis. Good luck To Beaumont United next week. Bring home that 3rd state championship. AggiesAreWe Posted March 5, 2023 Author Report Posted March 5, 2023 UIL needs to keep it in SA. No way it should go back to that God forsaken place called Austin as long as SXSW is still there. Moody Center only holds 11,000, 5,000 less than the Drum. I was told tu wasn't interested in hosting any longer because they didn't want to have to be on the road two consecutive weekends. With them joining SEC, they may not have a choice in hosting. Quote
rupert3 Posted March 6, 2023 Report Posted March 6, 2023 I think we ought to have it in Gregory gym lol went there several times. You probably seen Leggett get beat by Avinger in 77. Kowboy98 1 Quote

rupert3 Posted March 6, 2023 Report Posted March 6, 2023 Why the old gym would hold at least 100 on both sides TrojanMoJo 1 Quote

no-look Posted March 7, 2023 Report Posted March 7, 2023 Mike, reading your post is kinda sobering in a way. The winds of change happens to everyone sooner or later. The memories made with your dad are priceless. Maybe it’s time to make some with those grandsons. Carry on! AggiesAreWe 1 Quote

Those grand sons are definitely a priority. I'll be taking them to the tourney in a few years. Got to convince my daughter it's alright for them to miss a couple of days of school. no-look 1 Quote

I thought with the hydraulic ceiling the Moody Center could hold over 15,0000 people. Quote

They could open the upper bowl and hold 15k+ plus for UT basketball games if they needed to, there just isn't enough demand for those tickets. So theoretically they could seat 15k+ for the state tournament. AggiesAreWe 1 Quote

WOSdrummer99 Posted March 7, 2023 Report Posted March 7, 2023 Moody Center is a 15,000+ seat venue with the largest event floor in the nation which allows for a more intimate experience for spectators closest to the stage. Moody Center has the capability to be transformed into a 10,000-seat venue for basketball games, providing the opportunity for Longhorns fans and students to feel a part of the game. Quote
Kountzer Posted March 7, 2023 Report Posted March 7, 2023 From what I've heard the problem is parking and hotel space for both the state tournament and the SXSW music festival. Quote
mfd814 Posted March 8, 2023 Report Posted March 8, 2023 Mike, let me know your thoughts on The Horseshoe. I didn’t really like it. Maybe because I liked Isle of Capri. Delta has been good to me here lately. Quote

I've been hearing good things about the room at the Shoe. I know several of the dealers who were dealers at the Isle but now are at the Shoe. Nugget poker room has kind of been down a bit. mfd814 1 Quote

Went to NCAA March Madness last year and that place is amazing. No bad seats in the house, fairly easy to get in and out of, good parking and it is really nice. Quote
