I will help you stand corrected.

27 is not 40.  I have not ever said Miller isn't  a good player. Recently he has dropped in the recruiting rankings for some reason.

Not from what I've seen.

There are a lot of former and current NFL players on that list. I do feel Miller and Williams had the best seasons. Miller averaged 24 yards per catch wow!! You also forget he had several kickoff and put returns for TDs. Williams dominated for Silsbee on defense. Good luck to all the kids as every single kid is well deserved. I would have like to see Mason Brisbane for Silsbee as well. He had an outstanding season at QB.

Ha … I just noticed the plaque on the bookshelf says 2020 🤦🏻‍♂️

I think the confusion is a media source started listing the winners for the year in which it was awarded and not the season for which it was played.

It's 2023 and this year's award is for the season of 2022. Some will list it as 2023 winner, some 2022.

According to the organization giving the award. What is it officially?

Edit...

I've been searching photos of the award to see what's on the plaque. Can't make it out. All I see on the Lions club page is "31st annual"

I have been a voter since the original presentation. I think that have voted every year except one. When it first started we met each Sunday afternoon and talked about the weeks games. That was kind of fun but it got real old. I was ready to quit and then they quit meeting.

I think all the voters have their own way of making their decisions. For years I felt it should be a senior award and I would not voter for any juniors. I have voted for juniors in recent years but I don't think I ever voted for the player if he won as a junior and was on the ballot as a senior.

You can't see all the players so you have to depend on what coaches tell you and in my case I used to have a lot of friends in the news business and I would ask some of them about players that I had not seen. Many of my friends in the news business are no longer in the business so even that has changed.

This will probably be my last year but I think the Lions are having a tough time finding enough judges so if I am still working any I may do it again.

Yall were right. Finally got a good look at the award. Those years are for the seasons they played. Not when the award was given.

When did they start allowing underclassmen to get nominated for this award? If I remember correctly the year I was finalist, we were all seniors. This has to be new right? Even the Houston Touchdown Club only allows Seniors to be nominated.

I’ll also add that this award lacks substance because the people voting more than likely has never seen most of the players play. Houston TD Club meets before the season starts to watch film on all the players who coaches nominate & make their selections. Then they meet several times during the season to watch film of recent games to either make cuts or move player to the next round of selections. They have a very strict criteria when it comes to their award & I think the WRS voters should take note & catch up with the times.

But as far as who wins, my heart hopes it’s  Davion but I’m biased cause I coached him. Realistically though, Drelon should win the offensive award with flying colors!

Jamal Charles is a 2x winner so maybe since 2003.

Gotcha..Always thought this was an award for seniors

As far as I know, it's never been a "senior only" award. Been years where the finalists were all seniors, but all classifications are eligible.

Looking at some finalists (not necessarily winners) in the 1990's, there were some underclassmen nominated.

I know since I have been a voter (2012) all classes are eligible.
