For those in the dark, Coach Jake McDonald has taken the head coaching job at 5A Montgomery HS. Congrats and good luck Jake!! SourLake_Oilers 1 Quote

BEARCPA Posted April 20, 2023 Report Posted April 20, 2023 Winning 65% of your games at Orangefield is no small feat. Mr. Buddy Garrity and setxathlete14 2 Quote
Knox34 Posted April 20, 2023 Author Report Posted April 20, 2023 Orangefield could go outside the box and hire one of the basketball guys like weisbrod or Jace miguez or even scales 🤷🏻♂️…. Thoughts? Quote

Those two teams each had a historically good player for Orangefield which always helps. But he probably had the most 6 year tenure of any coach in program history. Good guy too - wish him the best. As you know, it’s not like getting certified as a peace officer, etc. Essentially pay some money and pass a test. They hire people all the time (at OF at least, with understanding they will get certified in whatever time frame grace period TEA or whomever dictates Quote

Knox34 Posted April 20, 2023 Author Report Posted April 20, 2023 Yeah if you have a college degree these days they will get you certified Quote

Maybe so. Have no idea honestly. Nor do I know if he would be interested. Looks like his training business is starting to boom. For good reason. Quote
ah22 Posted April 20, 2023 Report Posted April 20, 2023 What about making a run at Jeffcoat from LCM. Pretty sure the best returning player at OF was there before last year. Quote

Would love to have him but pretty sure he wouldn’t be interested. ah22 1 Quote
Football_Fan11 Posted April 20, 2023 Report Posted April 20, 2023 Wonder if the Vidor coach will bite? He knows the kids and seemed to be a good assistant with McDonald. SourLake_Oilers 1 Quote

Knox34 Posted April 20, 2023 Author Report Posted April 20, 2023 I have a good feeling there will be a few more coaches moving around. I don’t think we will have the answers for a few months Quote
navydawg31 Posted April 21, 2023 Report Posted April 21, 2023 Colton weisbrod has no intentions on coaching a HS team. He been recruited by English a few times. He enjoys what he is doing on training the local youth. Straight from his mouth. TxHoops 1 Quote

Bobcat1 Posted April 21, 2023 Report Posted April 21, 2023 Didn't Orangefield lose a lot of seniors? They will likely move to 4A next alignment not sure if that matters to the coaches applying, but it seems it would very hard to compete in the 4A district they'd be in. KF89 1 Quote
