Nederland 2023

What does a good season for Nederland look like this year? Setting aside the obvious “10 wins and a deep playoff run.” Given what last year was and what’s coming back, what looks good? I think six wins and making the playoffs would be a strong argument they’re improving. I don’t know if I see an easy path to 6. Of course, throw in a win against PNG and people would feel pretty good about things, I think. Who does Nederland play for pre-season?

Wos, Port Arthur Memorial, Silsbee.

What looks good....Hubert Thomas at RB and the LB Core with Ellis Walker and Cole Guidroz also add Albert Simon at DE should have a good year too

Nederland has been 0-3 plenty of times going into district and come out upper tier at the end of it. They will be battle tested come district play.

I agree with that approach. I don’t care if my team goes 0-3 through preseason as long as it’s making them better.

Ok, so are you saying they’re going to be  0 and 3 when district starts? Lol

All I said was that is a tough preseason schedule.

Texas City and Santa Fe have as many starters coming back as Nederland and both destroyed the Bulldogs last season, so I don’t see the Dogs winning those games, they may have a chance against Dayton. They do not have the athletes that Marshall has and PNG has a better coaching staff. They should beat Willowridge and GP. If they don’t beat WOS and Silsbee they could well be 2-8 again

IMO all district teams except Willowridge and GP are better than WOS and Silsbee

LOL!!! You think they can beat Dayton but not TC and SF? You live in an interesting microcosm. Also, there might be two district teams "better than Silsbee".

I’m saying I don’t buy too much stock into pre district games. I have seen Nederland 0-3 and ended up I think finishing second. But I also seen Nederland be 3-0 and not make the playoffs. They use non district as where the players seem best fit at, and move around a lot of players to get it all figured out by district.

I agree that with their non-district lineup, they will certainly be battle tested. That doesn’t mean they’ll be successful.

Fair question: Which of those 3 preseason games do you see them winning?

Going by the struggles of WOS last year I would say WOS but a full year under the new coach may have made a difference. We shall see. Good Luck to the Dogs. Hopefully Barrow doesn’t stay in the Dog House with fans. Pun intended. 😁

I believe that goes without saying for all high school teams but don’t think the coaches and players aren’t keeping score. That competitive spirit usually takes over anytime you’re keeping score. But I don’t take much stock in the preseason either. The main thing is just getting out of preseason without injuries.

I am so ready to watch some HS Football!

As I said on my first post that they will win 3 games TOPS!! I'm thinking the wins will be WW, SF, GP, But after hearing that Dayton has lost their keys players from last year they may have a shot at winning that game as well. Heard SF is down too, which was honestly the most embarrassing lost to me last year! So if they win those games they will be in the playoffs with that 4th spot, which will be needed given all the pressure Nederland is under. We shall see though, given that tough pre-district schedule hopefully they get out of those games healthy! Because with the "talent pool" they have Nederland cant afford to lose ANY key starters. If they do its a wrap!!
