Monday night the Lonestar Junior Football League Sr. Division Champs, the Deweyville Pirates, traveled to West Orange to take on the STJFL Senior Division Champs, WOS Mustangs.  After one overtime period and 5 fumbles the Deweyville Pirates still managed to hang on 26-25. GO LONESTAR!

Both teams were very good, outstanding Little League game, you had (2) undefeated, Superbowl Champions from Lonestar and Stjfl going head to head and yes Deweyville won 26-25 in OT, however, WOS has nothing to hang their heads about, they were down 19-6 in the 1st half and managed to comeback and tie the game to send it into OT.  Deweyville Pirates were nothing short of outstanding, after playing a tough, physical game Nov 17th in the Lonestar Superbowl victory over Silsbee then to turn around and play WOS on Nov 19th in a physical game that goes to OT and win is a direct reflection on the kids desire and drive to be the best, and now they can say not only are they the Lonestar Champs but they also beat the best that Stjfl has, and I would like to send congrats to the Coaches and Fans from Deweyville, great job with these young men, I'm very proud of the representation we had from the Fans and city of Deweyville, this group of Senior 12 yr olds won a Flag Superbowl, a Junior Tackle Superbowl and now they completed the sweep with a Senior Superbowl Championship in their Little League careers, all (3) of their Superbowls were undefeated seasons, quite an accomplishment.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Lone Star league allows 7th grade kids to play and the STJFL does not.  Not taking anything away from Deweyville, because they were very well coached.  I know Dwewyville had some 7th graders and WOS was all 5th and 6th graders.  I was at the game and it was a great game by both teams.

The League ages for both STJFL and Lonestar are the same, 12 years old, I don't care if the kid is 12 yrs old in the 6th grade or 12 yrs old in the 7th grade they are still 12 yrs old. I've heard that crap for years from STJFL, just because Deweyvilles kids are in the right grade, they are still 12 yrs old.

There was no reason for this comment......About the right grade and such. The post before did not take anything away from Deweyville. They do a great job out there, and then some one has to get on here and down grade the others kids. That is just wrong. It is not about the kids anymore, some people want to live their dreams through their kids.

DP#1- Are you refering to me?

Steelerczy- The comment I was refering to was the part about being in the right grade.

Why would you have a problem with that comment?  These kids have known each other from baseball, basketball and football for years, and from playing with and against each other in these sports, holding kids back for whatever reason is a common occurance, it's done quite regularly.

if a kid is in the 7th grade and he is playing school ball and youth then (no matter the age) he is getting more  practice, better coaching and more conditioning which would make it unfair to play against 5th and 6th graders

And more tired and beat up toward the end of the year as my son was this year, very tough double-up for a 7th grader to do both 7th and youth football along with academics.

All I know is I have been coaching youth football for 8 years and there is a big difference between kids in the seventh grade and 5th and 6th graders.  Maybe its because they are a year older.  I played 7th graders for two years in little league and got killed everytime I played one of those team that had several 7th graders on them.  I was competetive with everone else except those teams.  I have been competetive since we started playing all of the same aged kids.  I guess most 6th graders are 11 turning 12 and most 7th graders are 12 turning 13.  Big difference!!  I know my child started school whgen she was supposed to and is in the right grade and she is an 8th grader 13 turning 14.  Think what you want but I have seen it first hand, and before you go and say I can't coach I beg to differ.  I did state that both teams played a great game and were well coached but there was an obvious age difference.  With that said if it is all the same as some of you have stated them lets schedule these teams in the 7th and 8th grade and see what the outcome would be.

I must not be as smart as you, but the last time I checked, a kid that was 11 turning 12 was a year younger that a kid 12 turning 13.  I think I get it now, but maybe you could expalian how a kid that is 11 turning 12 is not a year younger that a kid 12 turning 13.  Also you have to take into account that there is a major change in a young man at around 13 years of age.  I guess i don't get that either.  You abviously have always been on the team that had the 7th graders and not the team with the 5th and 6th graders.  Like I said in my last post lets start playing them in the 7th and 8th grade where it really is equal and see what happens.  I think we all know what would happen!!!!!

We were one of the founding members of STJFL years ago and played/Coached in that league for 3 years before forming LJFL.  There's no comparison when it comes to competition top to bottom, in 2006 we won the Allstar challenge in Little Cypress with a LJFL Senior Team with NO 7th Graders on it against the best STJFL had to play against us.  It comes down to Coaching and working with the talent your given. Deweyville has 12 - 13 kids on their Senior Team year in and year out and still we are always in the hunt for a championship due to Coaching. And we do know what the outcome would be in 7th and 8th Grade games, the same as it always is, a loss for you.

I know you really don't  think that your 7th, 8th or whatever grade you would like to talk about team could get on a field and compete with WOS, BC, LCM, Lumberton, Nederland, PN-G etc.  If you do believe that you need to wake up and smell the coffee.  As far as the allstars go your guys played a great game.  That is just one year, to say that there is no comparison is just a stupid statement.  Your right you do have some good coaches as I stated in my first post, both teams were well coached.  But the fact remains any little league team using 7th graders has great advantage over teams with only 5th and 6th graders.  That is a fact you cannot ignore.  Or I guess you can if your on the team with 7th graders.

Deweyville is a small 2a, they will play anyone, including your 3a/4a 7th and 8th Grade Teams and compete, that's the only advantage you'd have is numbers, and LJFL has owned STJFL for 2 consecutive years, including the team you Coached, so keep talking, cause the proof is already out there. Your just making yourself look bad.
