Mark my words... the Cards won't do any worse in than they did last year.

1.  Lowest scoring team in 4AD2

2. Winless in District

3.  We've got nowhere to go but up.  Or stay right here at the bottom.  But we won't be any worse.

Worse is losing key baseball i mean football players due to injury.

I heard they been working on a hit and run play to try and manufacture some runs (I mean points) .

Nah.... you just "play" football by putting on a jersey (but no pads) and just chill on the sideline, helping the qb warm up or whatever.... but you're on the team, right?

Pathetic... suit up and play.  Playing to not get hurt or playing scared is how you get hurt.

They should probably just can the football program and be a baseball powerhouse like Central Heights.

Not likely with all the upgrades to the stadium that were completed last summer. Ticket sales for soccer isn't enough. But I could see them starting a championship caliber lacrosse program.

Just heard from a decent reliable source that 17 members of the BC football club quit because of the firing of the coach.  Also heard that hardly any kids showing up for summer workouts.  Can anyone confirm or deny?

My friend said summer numbers are higher than they have been the past few years, but a handful of the former varsity players didn't show up, but that's not unusual for them. Somebody's mom was stirring up sheet on Facebook and telling the kids to not show up for workouts to protest.

Protest what? Being an athlete?

I would venture to say if McQuire had won a District Championship or State Title, the Superintendent  would have been wanting to go into the snow cone business with McQuire!   Can anyone reasonably doubt that sometimes principles has it limits?!

I've got two theories.  First, it's possible that some on the board and the super were beginning to feel the heat over the lack of success after two years under Coach McGuire.  It doesn't help that LCM, PNG, and WOS (Yeah, I really did throw WOS in there.... Haters gonna hate, ya know) all had remarkable turnarounds with new coaches.... we didn't really see a marked improvement in the win/loss column.  My guess is that the community didn't really give Admin a whole lot of room to wiggle.  On the other hand, I also heard that other people were having to step in and perform coaching/AD responsibilities when McGuire would go MIA... I've always wondered why the Baseball Coach wasn't also AD, other than it being impossible to find a HFC without the AD.  I wouldn't be surprised if the AD title gets handed off to Landry with a strong coordinator (I dunno, like and OC from a good school) shouldering the load of actual coaching.

It's BC... it could be the start of something better for football, or the start of something better for baseball.  I guess time will tell.

If it wasn't so late in the year when they pulled the plug, I think what you say would have some merit.  McQuires failures on the field, if this was the ultimate problem, could have, should have, been dealt with right after football season ended.  But waiting until the last week of the school year has to lend credence to the fact that it may have been the outside activity that finally got him.  But, you are right, though, they would have been justified pulling the plug because of his on-field performance.

I think the on-field made the off-field indefensible.  If BC just had a season like PNG had, they'd hire a para to run the snowcone truck for him.

Always hoping for the best for any coach especially those who have the pressure of being labeled interim. Tough profession…and an honorable one. I agree that snow cone business owner and AD/Head Football is not the best look, but if the guy needed the money , you know. Don’t know his situation, but you cant be leaving campus during work hours. As far as this season goes under the baseball coach (Landry).  Let’s say we go ahead and give him wins against Buna, Hardin -Jefferson, and Liberty….just saying…Is a 3-7 season enough to solidify not going out and getting someone else? Is that enough to be satisfied with?  Does anyone really feel like miraculous district wins are coming against WOS, Silsbee, HF, and Jasper or that they will defeat LCM or Lumberton in the preseason or even Orangefield. I wouldn’t think so.

We should beat Buna. Wins over HJ and Liberty would be considered a surprisingly good outcome.

FWIW, I don’t think we’d be any better with Coach Snocone wearing the headphones.

    • naw, maaaaybe 7, definitely not 8 deep.  today im avoiding sitting by #10s parents, had to move away yesterday.   "put my son back in jub, put my son back in"  and then crying on every little touch of someone.    lets ball out today ktz!
    • Very close game until the 2nd half (mostly the 4th) when Orangefield came unraveled. Worse defensive effort I have seen out of the Bobcats in three years. This team has to get back on D and quit getting beat over the top when pressing. Offensively, non ball handlers continually turn it over and their shot selection is poor. Basic basketball, such as: defensive hustle, boxing out, and taking care of the basketball are the areas the Bobcats need to work on most. Whitmire will get them on point, but he shouldn't have to coach effort at the Varsity Level.  We'll be at McNeese this Friday night at 6pm.
    • I don’t benefit from it, that’s not my area.  But the average cost to imprison someone is around $15k per year (on average in the US) and capital cases cost somewhere between $1.5-$3M with over half being overturned or reduced to life in prison anyway.  These numbers may be inflated since the last report I read but I’m sure it would be on both sides and higher on the DP side if anything. So what’s the point?  We feel better because we got to return the favor on someone (hopefully) who committed a heinous crime?  And I don’t know I can say we have “complicated” it. Which appeal should we cut out?  Our justice system has a pecking order and we have higher courts for a reason. When we are about to impose the ultimate judgment, should we cut steps that other cases have to save a buck?  Or do we not pay for an indigent person’s experts at the trial court level because it’s too expensive? Or do we just lock them up and throw away the key (unless we later find out they weren’t actually guilty, in which case we have a key and a life we haven’t unjustly ended) and save a ton of money?  Seems to me to be an obvious solution but I’m more of a pragmatist.
    • 1 thing for certain. Coach Earned 3 more years to figure it out lol
