Cougtalk Posted September 5, 2023 Report Posted September 5, 2023 Didn't see this thread up yet so here we go. Crosby had the worst game in a decade last week. Not only did they not execute they played a team that made them pay for every single mistake we made. The offense looked atrocious, the defense didn't look good but how can you when the opposing offense is getting the ball in the redzone every time. We played C.E. King 10x better than FBM and got smashed, but tbf so did Allen (didn't see that coming.) Schedulers gave us no breaks this year either 3rd straight away game against the best of the Baytown schools to start district with the ever present Eagles looming behind this one. It's Crosby's week to put up or shut up honestly. The offensive line needs to move their feet and make some blocks this week. The Running back talent is there, the QB is solid, the TE could be great as well. The Oline and the Wideouts have killed us this season (especially the Oline). Who takes ownership of the current state of the Cougars at the end of the day this team needs to figure out exactly what they are going to do about getting punched in the mouth two weeks in a row. Coaches can call last week a glorified scrimmage all they want but if your not prepared this week Lee is one of the most opportunistic teams in the district. So it's up to the coaches, and the leaders on both sides of the ball to execute. Period. Know your dang plays and execute them, Leaders do, now go do. Quote

Did the entire offensive staff leave with Prieto? Don’t recall the offense being this bad with him or Rio. Quote

Old Ape Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 I see this game having playoff implications. BH and PAM don’t look to be fooling around this season. I see LP being a big problem, so that leaves Crosby, Lee, and Porter battling it out for playoff spots. Quote
HurricaneCal Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 I missed last weeks game due to work, but even against CEK, there were times where plays were called and routed were ran wrong, the O-line threw quite a few look out blocks, and the defense has some holes. For them to win this year they are going to have to limit possessions and sustain drives. The QB is pretty accurate but man he’s having to get rid of the ball really quick. The folks I was watching with I keyed in on some players on certain plays and some of these kids don’t like contact. When Crosby is good the Offensive and defensive lines hold their own and let the other athletes create plays. I didn’t see that against king but they were so overmatched it was hard to gauge. Honest assessment of the receivers is they have to run precise routes because they are not going to run by anybody. Scheme has to get them open so hopefully they know what to run and how to line up. Might be a long year COOGS . Send all hate mail to BuddyG please! Quote

Don’t recall the offense being this bad with him or Rio. I'm not 100% sure but the scheme is entirely different it's a 2 back one TE set similar to what you see a lot of 6A schools run. The Oline has been so so bad tho, it's been a long time since we've played this poorly. A lot of people are calling this the worst loss since Elgin in like 09. I'm not the fan that's going to be over the moon or under the bridge about my team until they prove it. They showed a lot of fight against an apparently VERY good 6A team. They got absolutely dismantled by a VERY good 5AD2 Marshall. It's possible that Marshall is just that good or that the game just got away from us but at the end of the day running backs running into each other on 3rd and 3, or wide receivers running bad routes, or offensive linemen compeltely missing entire players because they are using some simple Dline twist actions means you're playing poorly. I'm not throwing the team out with the bath water, I just am not going to sit here an ask for moral victories when you're not executing. It would be completely okay if we got beat because FBM was just better and faster, but the way we got beat and how badly we executed ultimately starts with the coaching staff and the lack of preparation he kids had. Perhaps the staff needed to install only like 15 plays to start and build up through the year but it seems that the kids are lost on offense. Quote
Old Ape Posted September 7, 2023 Report Posted September 7, 2023 Whole offensive staff left. Coach had to hire 22 new coaches (JH and HS). Tough thing to do in the amount of time he was given. Quote
Bud Kilmer Posted September 7, 2023 Report Posted September 7, 2023 And why did he leave again? Was it the superintendents doing? Quote

My prediction is a bit hopeful probably but Cougars win because their defense shows out and the offense does enough to make it not that close. When comparing athletes Crosby is lightyears ahead but that only means so much when you are stumbling over yourself at every opportunity. Crosby 28-7 Quote

Hopefully they can pull out a W in this one because if not playoffs are definitely not going to happen. Let’s be honest here though, 3,4 seeds go home the 1st week of the playoffs anyways. Quote
