myrecordwashorrible Posted October 28, 2023 Author Report Posted October 28, 2023 Games for 10/28. HCU welcomes TAMCommerce for Homecoming at CVS Stadium. Nicholls plays at home against SE Missouri (Ohio Valley Conference). Birds vs Birds in Beaumont as Lamar hosts the #4 ranked and 2022 FCS semi-finalist UIW Cardinals. Northwestern at McNeese is cancelled as Mr. Buddy Garrity's posts mention. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted October 28, 2023 Author Report Posted October 28, 2023 HCU making improvements as they move to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in conference with a win over Commerce. Nicholls falls to SE Missouri giving the SLC another out of conference loss. Bird v Bird still in action with Lamar keeping it close. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted October 29, 2023 Author Report Posted October 29, 2023 Lamar drops game 17-7. The 2 teams that are undefeated in confence, Nicholls and UIW face off next week. This game will likely determine the conference champion and automatic qualifier for the FCS playoffs. If UIW loses and wins out after that, the conference could still secure 2 spots in the playoffs. That would be an interesting outcome based on the conferences overall low ranking among other FCS conferences. Lamar host Commerce needing to win 2 of the final 3 to secure a winning season. The 2 remaing games are a trip to Nicholls on the 11th and the finale at home against McNeese on the 18th. McNesse travel to SELA in the other matchup. HCU @ Northwestern State is cancelled. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted October 29, 2023 Author Report Posted October 29, 2023 Scanning the remaining schedule for the LU, UIW, and Nicholls. Odd scenario that could occur. Northwestern's season being cancelled due to the tragic loss of one of their players could leave the conference with an issue. Scenario.. Nicholls beats UIW this coming Saturday must happen first followed by a win for Lamar over Nicholls. Then, if all 3 teams win remaining games....LU finishes 6-1 and the other 2 are 5-1, not a 3 way tie. Lamar is the only one that played Northwestern. Will the conference allow that stand or convert the cancelations to forfeits? Assume since they are already listed as cancelations that is set and simply stands by pre-approved guidelines. However,... Quote

After the sad passing of a teammate the quartback is now claiming the young man's death was used as an excuse to shut down the program. Strong accusations, but if he is accurate the use of a young person's death to do this is beyond reprehensible. The university's response is in the article. The link is from KALB, however some national news groups are reporting in this as well. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted November 5, 2023 Author Report Posted November 5, 2023 Lamar beats Commerce. UiW loses to Nicholls. Nicholls lone undefeated team in conference play. SELA defeated McNeese in the only other game today. Conference issue with Northwestern "explained" below. I simply don't understand if the conference will influence the automatic qualifier. The NCAA views of the forfeits doesn't clarify, at least to me, if the conference can determine the automatic qualifying team. It seems to be no, but if so why are they listing the forfeits. I will ask around on Monday, unless someone smarter than me (doesn't take much) can interpret without speculating. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted November 7, 2023 Author Report Posted November 7, 2023 The conference bylaws count the forfeits for the conference and allows for the conference to use this for determining he automatic qualifier. At large teams are not given credit for the forfeits when considering participants in the playoffs by the NCAA FCS selection committee. Quote

myrecordwashorrible Posted November 12, 2023 Author Report Posted November 12, 2023 LU loses to Nicholls. Nicholls clinches the automatic qualifier spot for the FCS playoffs. UIW was scheduled for NWST, but that game had been cancelled for weeks. UIW can still share the SLC title with Nicholls with a final weekend win coupled with a Nicholls loss. As stated Nicholls holds the SLC playoff spot, this is due to the head to head win earlier over UIW. SELA beat A&M Commerce. HCU knocked off McNeese and set the school record for wins. This win also ensures the first winning season in school history (includes forfeit by NWST). Next week... LU host McNesse. A win and the Birds finish no worse than 3rd in conference. Could end up tied with UIW for 2nd if UIW loses. Lamar win would give them a 6-5 record with 1 loss to an FBS program, 1 loss to the SLC champions, and the other 3 to ranked FCS opponents. Going into this past weekend, those 3 teams were ranked #4, #6, and #10. Most, I assume, would consider this a good start for the new coach. Some might say much better than just good. UIW travels to HCU. UIW will playing with hopes for a committee selection into the FCS playoffs. Thursday night game as SELA host Nicholls. Commerce was scheduled to play Northwestern S. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted November 19, 2023 Author Report Posted November 19, 2023 LU knocks off McNeese. LU finishes 6-5 with a 4-2 in conference record. McNesse could have a new coach next season. UIW beats HCU. UIW despite an 8-2 record will be hoping for an FCS playoff invite as the weakness of the SLC and some close calls leave it in limbo. Some projections have them in and others have them as a first 4 out. HCU and new coach Braxton Harris complete the most successful season in school history despite today's loss. Nicholls beat SELA on Thursday. Nicholls is the SLC champion and will learn their first round opponent tomorrow. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted November 19, 2023 Author Report Posted November 19, 2023 Nicholls travels to Southern Illinois. UIW despite an 8-2 record is left out. UIW's lack of a quality win and close games against what would be considered weak opponents by the committee was the likely reasons. Fourteen of the 24 teams come from 3 conferences. Missouri Valley has 6 and the Colonial and Big Sky each have 4. Note: 27,000 plus attended the Montana v Montana State game yesterday. That total is approximately 2.5% of the state's population. Interesting that the 2 biggest sports programs of any type in the state are FCS schools. If that happened in Texas, you would need a 750,000 seat stadium. A silly but fun thought. Quote
myrecordwashorrible Posted November 25, 2023 Author Report Posted November 25, 2023 Southern Illinois 35 Nicholls 0. Close the book on the 2023 SLC season. Quote
