Guesses on final records and who will end up top 4?

I think the top three will stay the same with maybe a little bit of a fight between Sterling and PNG; Crosby is cooked.  All in all, it's just an extremely uncompetitive volleyball district.

If BH gets bumped up in the next realignment, then maybe they will actually have some competition in VB because it's been YEARS since they have seen anything here.  A district record of 41-1 since 2020 pretty much speaks volumes. My guess is that by the end of this season, their record will be 51-1 in the district since the last realignment.

Well next Tuesday there are some interesting matchups, GCM vs Sterling and BH vs PNG followed on Friday of BH vs Nederland and Sterling vs PNG. Things may look a little clearer by then.  @ExSportMom who you got?

@kenny powers I pick GCM over Sterling. BH over PNG. BH over Nederland. It will be a good game, but I pick PNG over Sterling.

Not playing the right lineup?

Yes and no.  Playing your kids in the right spots is a decent portion of it, but there are other things going on there.  Many high school coaches won't admit it, but a lot of their elite/better players are almost all products of club volleyball.  It doesn't mean that you can't have a competitive HS team without club players, it just means the coach (and staff) better be really good at establishing fundamental concepts in their non-club players.

Solid defense (passing and net play) and serving can keep you in many matches when your team's offensive skills, or overall talent, don't compare.  Essentially, keep the ball alive and have the other team make mistakes.  IMO, you don't need club to instill solid defense and serving in players, just takes effort and the proper know-how.

However, it looks like Sterling figured something out last night.

GCM’s middles are great! One more than the other but they’re single blocking the other team’s top outside every time. Teams with decent hitters will eat that up all night long. That was the biggest thing I noticed when playing them. And they try running the middle from outside too but it’s hard to win consistently when your middle is your best player with not enough around them. You just can’t get them the ball as much as you’d like.

I think a combined GCISD team would give BH a run for their money.

When is Barbers Hill moving to 6A?  That should happen over the next few years with all the growth going on in Mt Belvieu

I can only speculate, I think BH moves up in 2026. According to the projections I read from different sources, BH stays 5A for now. Only the UIL knows. They will do what they will. We will know more in 3 weeks. Keep in mind much of the BHISD growth is in elemetary and middle school.

That math ain’t mathing. GCM has some tough games left.  And “could” end up 7-7.  Maybe some sickness could cause some turnover on teams like last year.  “Cough Cough”. I don’t hope that happens to any of them and hope all teams end up healthy and ready to represent the district come playoff time.   Crosby is a still a dangerous team and they still could end up 7-7.  PNG is still in it until they aren’t.  Just saying. I’m not saying this won’t be the four but there is still some volleyball left.
