Long ways away I know and a ton of ball to be played but just something to discuss as the season goes! Glad the Stangs looked improved even if it was just a scrimmage vs Lumberton… You can still see things you like and improvements even if the other team isn’t that great. The Stangs have had a rough past couple years and even though they were bouncing us from the playoffs before that I hope they have a good season and improve! ladybug33 1 Quote
SmashMouth Posted August 16 Report Posted August 16 Glad to hear there were lots of positives for the Mustangs. Kinda worried about the Raiders. They lost a lot from last year. This would've been a much different scrimmage a year ago. All in all though, it's still early. Quote
WOSdrummer99 Posted August 16 Author Report Posted August 16 (edited) My fault for putting the scrimmage talk here. But this is WOS topic. I merged those posts with @RaiderGirl22's L Town Raiders here... Edited August 16 by WOSdrummer99 Merged Lumberton posts Quote

Should be a fun season with lots of opportunities for the players. Really good to hear this news about the Mustangs playing good in the scrimmage game last night. Quote
WOSdrummer99 Posted November 24 Author Report Posted November 24 Well Mustang fans it's time for my annual end of season rant. I've had so much company up here on the soapbox that I may have to start charging rent. After 3 years I don't think anything needs to be said. We all know what's wrong. We all know why. So what's the decision at the next board meeting? IMO, there's been enough imaginary success for the board to rubber stamp the Superintendent's vision for our future student athletes. #make every second count Due to soft scheduling and a weaker than normal district. The luck of knocking off 2 ranked opponents early when they were not healthy or still trying to figure it out. Also led to a premature ranking and a hollow DCTF weekly award. The 2 late season losses vs ranked teams proves what we know has been the biggest problem. Football 19-15 .559 Baseball 9-35 .205 Basketball 19-35 .352 GBB 11-29 .275 Softball 1-22 .043 Volleyball 0-38 .000 Overall 59-174 .253 For anyone living in the district, I ask that you contact you're elected board members publicly and privately. Don't let them think this is exceptable. Be the solution to the equation. Not the divisor. This starts at the top and falls heavily upon those walking the halls. They deserve better. marshman Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 I don’t realize the overall athletic program was that bad. I knew baseball and softball has been really poor, but volleyball? 0-38? Dang! Quote

As most on here know I am all about the numbers. Nothing good about those numbers, particularly the girls sports. 12-89??? Most want to point at the coaching aspect of these numbers (and rightly so). But those numbers also scream lack of talent. I watch a lot of football and basketball (more basketball than anything) over the last several years and some baseball and softball. (no volleyball). Personally IMO, I have seen a drop in talent at WO-S across the board. I also talk with lot's of area coaches (multiple sports) and many say the same thing about WO-S athletics. The talent has dropped. Now it ain't all about the athletes though. It's also a fact the experience level on the athletic staff at WO-S is not nearly experienced as it once was. I am talking all sports, not just football. That has a lot to do with the lack of success as well. The real question is, why are there not highly experienced coaches at WO-S? I think most have an idea as to why but I think it's more than just that. I think football is getting better. Boys basketball has had it's moments over the last couple years as well. But the other sports are certainly struggling, to say the least. Quote

Thats just stupid to think that. Quote

Nothing astronomical, but still a drop. Have had others tell me the same. Quote

WO-S 89 Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 It’s funny for 44 years Hooks and Thompson never had a drop off in talent. Quote
AggiesAreWe Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 Just now, WO-S 89 said: Ok, has anybody mention we have had a big drop off in coaching? If you are talking football, then yes. But keep it in perspective. You had two Hall of Fame coaches prior to now. Most would expect a drop. The fact is WO-S has been spoiled with having two HOF coaches over a 45 year period. Also a very experienced coaching staff over those years, That is something that many many schools dream of. Welcome to the real world. lol Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote

BADSANTA Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 West Orange Stark has been a powerhouse since I csn remember. At some point, your bound to fall off to some degree. Alabama has 3 or 4 loses this season. Who would have thought? Has Orange lost kids to LCM or even Orangefield? Quote

I've been to several School Board meeting complaining about Harris and his AD pick. BOTH of them need replaced. Harris has been told his contract will not be renewed but they allow him to continue as a Lame Duck Superintendent. The grades are pathetic and the coaching is pathetic. I urge each one of your to go to the School Board meetings and sound off. And VOTE FOR School Board members who support hiring a real Superintendent and Athletic Director. Harris and Hickman need to go right now. The School Board President Linda Platt, needs voted OUT. Quote

When Hickman took over, he demoted or ran off all the experienced coaches and threw out the program that worked. Quote
