LamarJunior Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Looks like there is a lot of difference of opinion on the subject of football.
Guest abovetherim Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 "I'm a big time LU football fan...18k average is dreaming, thats what we had when we hosted Baylor."Can't I dream a little? I agree 18k average is dreaming. However, I dream big about everything. The Dallas Cowboys 1-15, I still dreamed of them winning a Super Bowl. Lamar never being in the NCAA tournament. I dreamed about a Final Four. My dream fell short as they only made it to the Sweet Sixteen. I dreamed about a 6 figure income. Well, that dream will happen this year. I dream of Lamar playing in the CCWS. They haven't made it yet but Lamar has made it to quite a few regionals. I dream of a national title with Lamar making the national new as the little ole school in Beaumont, Texas wins a DI title. Well, the Lamar golf team recently finished 3rd in the nation. I know I'm weird. Most people dream of having a beautiful spouse, children (I've got three step-children). Dream of having the nicest home in the area, best car/truck or all name brand clothing. Some dream of traveling the world (I've done it). So please, I promise I'll never tell you how to dream so allow me to dream about a marching band, twirlers, cheerleaders, coaches, players and fan's proudly wearing the red and white of Lamar. The Cardinals battling with all their hearts versus some un-named rival. The crowd cheering wildly and the band playing the Cardinals fight song. It may not be your dream but as I close my eyes and visualize my dream unfolding I feel proud of my community, my school, as my school's athletic program is just a widow to all the great and wonderful things offered at Lamar University. Let's go Big Red, Let's go!

Let's go Big Red, Let's go!I'm not telling you to stop dreaming..I'd love to see Lu pack em in like sardines..just my opinion...they'll have the Grandest Band in the Land, cheerleaders, and b-i-g r-e-d...I feel proud of my community, my school, as my school's athletic program Hey, just because i dont foresee 20,000 people at a LU football game, does not mean I'm not proud of LU and Beaumont.
UNLV Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 18k average or 30k average is not dreaming. it's just a matter of making it happen.LU could make it happen if they tried hardwith the right ppl.
weslinder Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Wes, I work in Education (and until a couple years ago, Lamars education program wasn't the best in the world, ask anyone that went throught it and they will tell you the same). That makes sense. SFA (and SH and SWT) is certainly a better school for education majors than Lamar. I'm not afraid to admit that. In many other degrees, especially business, arts, and hard sciences, the perception (true or not) is that SFA isn't nearly as good as Lamar.
WOS95 Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 IMO the key to high attendance figures will be WINS!!! i think the folks around setx understand that when lamar starts football again there will be some growing pains. however, once the new wears off, the key to keeping people in the stands is winning, and making the playoffs on a regular basis. just my opinion. everyone loves to follow a winner.
Guest abovetherim Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Could not have said it better myself. After the first few years we have to win and I think the administration at LU know that and will do everything possible to make the sport a winner for the students, the community and all of SE Texas to be proud about. IMO for winning to occur it is critical Lamar hires the right guy to jump start the program.
UNLV Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 If Cardinal stadium is expanded, LU will top ALL slc schools the first year. After that first year comes the hard part.LU must not join the slc in football...PERIOD.
