All of this PNG talk on this thread but no mention on how good their basketball team is ??

Funny you mention that, they've always been weak one time a group of my friends from church beat their starters. But that's been an accepted fact and football reigns king here. But still a true story a church league of guys under 6' won

rumor has it that rich will be new coach but buying house and sending his kids to png🤣🤣

lol when the for sale signs come out and get put in his yard from the residents then we know we've made it. Or whatever it was PNG fans did when they couldn't buy a W in MCM

Ik its off topic, but interesting that you brought basketball up, since Big Ned basketball is slowly dropping in the district standings the last couple of weeks including a beat down from PA a few days ago. Coach E better hope the new AD\Head football coach over looks this mediocre culture the last several years of Nederland basketball district\ playoff records & not winning many championships or playoff games.

Tough district that is going to get much tougher when BU drops in.    For people who have short memory , how was Ned basketball before English got here??   The point being, districts change, opponents change.   Its not going to be easy going every year for almost any team, it cycles, but English is doing  a good job.

The Bulldog basketball team appears to doing what the PAM football team did at the end of the season and that is fold the tent. The Bulldogs better get it together A couple of losses this week and they may be sitting at the house along with PNG

Same excuses the last 10 years. Hold all coaches to the same standard.

No excuse, just facts.  There aren't a whole lot of schools that repeat as district champs unless they are head and shoulders above the rest of the district.  Most of the time in Ned's districts (football )  there are at least 5 teams competing for four spots.

Off topic but people act like the sky is falling with the basketball program yet they'll still be 3rd in district once the dust settles

Many make the same statement about Barrow, but he lost his job. Similar season outcomes the last few years in a few Nederland sports so where is the outrage for other head coaches firings & hiring coaches that can win district titles, beat png & make regular playoff runs(wins)?

You know Nederland only cares about 1 sport only. Everything else is second fiddle and poor every girl sport in NISD…

No sport has nearly the aggregate amount of emotion around it like football. When PNg won state in baseball (also, I’m just realizing PNG won state in two sports in a six year stretch - That’s pretty cool) everyone was extremely excited and proud. But it wasn’t even close to the near-religious, transcendent breath of joy that opened up across the entire PNG community when we won in football. Football is king at most schools. If coaches chose their jobs only on lack of pressure, they’d all be fighting for non-football spots.

Monte was the AD, that holds more salary, responsibility and is the first change to be made when results aren't delivered

I know PN-G is a football school first and foremost - 28 district titles, 16 seasons with ten or more wins, ten regional titles, eight state championship appearances and four state titles speak to that - but we really are blessed with an embarrassment of athletic riches at PN-G. The baseball program has made four state championship appearances and won it once; three of those appearances and the victory have all occurred in the last 25 years. The softball team has made two state championship appearances, both in the last 25 years. The volleyball team is 3-0 in state championship games. For most of the last fifteen years, both the boys' and girls' soccer programs have been major regional powers, making regional final appearances several times. If I recall correctly, there was one season where both teams made it to the regional final. We've fielded two or three state champions in various track activities plus a few dozen more state track meet qualifiers, and are always competitive in powerlifting. We used to be a real power in tennis. Sports-wise, basketball is really the only area where PN-G has consistently underperformed.

Add in all the academic accolades - the years of blue ribbon designations, thirteen straight district titles in UIL academics from 2001 to 2013 and several consecutive years of dozens of kids advancing to regionals, a handful to state and one kid winning a gold medal in creative writing at the state UIL meet. For several years, PN-G offered more dual credit hours than any other local high school, Kelly included. And then there's the performing arts. The band has made, what, four trips to the state marching competition? Straight ones all but maybe three or four seasons since the UIL started holding regional marching competitions 50+ years ago, plus how many different awards from local marching festivals and competitions? Not to mention the hundreds of PN-G students who've achieved all-region and all-state honors in band and choir over the years, and a very competitive theater program. There are whole hallways at the high school lined with trophy cabinets filled to the brim for the different performing arts groups.

Football is king at PN-G, but there are many, many more reasons to be proud to be an Indian.

That's good stuff..... and don't forget the coaching staff is undefeated, and 1-0 in post game bar fights.

You better believe it. We’re hiring Mr T and Chuck Norris next.

Can we get back to talking about Nederland’s new football coach? I know very little about him. I don’t feel like reading every post. Thanks.

Congrats on the new coach!
