I don't really want to comment on any offseason additions outside of the one that I was involved in that I already mentioned above. I will say Willis has had my nephew working the X-receiver instead of A-back all week if that's an indication? Hard to be optimistic about anything until the plays get called though. Quote
Cougar14.2 Posted August 22 Report Posted August 22 Crosby fans should be able to finally find out who the starting QB is going to be today? Think one of the three has fallen out of consideration since the other two are getting the bulk of the first team reps. If both of the kids play even I sincerely hope Willis goes with the sophomore the way they would do in college. On the defensive side of the ball, if Crosby gives up anything in the live portion I would be concerned. On paper this should be one of the better units Crosby has had but but we'll see if they've absorbed enough of the new system which would allow them to play a lot faster than they did last year? If Lee is able to go up and down the field on us it feels like this could be another sub-.500 season which would be even more disappointing than last year since a district like this would've been considered a cake-walk for Crosby in the not too distant past. Cougar14.2 Posted August 23 Report Posted August 23 If tonight was any indication it looks like it’s going to be another long year for Crosby. Looks like we picked up right where we left off last year. Coach Hurts exploited our defense with kids who looked smaller and less athletic than our freshman squad and the offense is more of the same from last year. Can’t get any movement in the trenches but we’re still going to run it on first and second down, throw an incompletion on 3&8 then punt. Was really hoping we would look better in year two but now I just think we are what we are until something changes. Justafan72 1 Quote
Justafan72 Posted August 23 Report Posted August 23 A very unemotional performance by the Cougars.More emotion on the Lee side from their Coaches when time after time Crosby secondary was beat by the same play over and over again and their defense stumped any momentum by the Cougars offense..Anytime defensive players are talking to each other or arguing with each other, confusion breeds defeat. Hats off to the Lee coaching staff, they had their kids ready to play and took advantage of a porous Crosby secondary whenever they needed to.Those mistakes are not hard to remedy. But is this coaching staff capable of turning that around. If not, another long season for this Cougar team and a great fan base that was there and left looking bewildered. On a bright note the Crosby freshman team has some really bright spots, some nice overall size and 2 maybe 3 deep at the running back position. Will a Willis coaching staff bring this bunch along,I personally have my doubts. On the JV side, if they can correct getting the snap out of the dirt, the QB can throw a nice ball. Some nice hitting on the defensive side.Lee had the biggest kid on the field at qb and hurt Crosby's defense with the run. purple reign Posted September 20 Report Posted September 20 With the teams all being off this week and about to start district play next week, I took a look at how Maxpreps ranked them in comparison to other 5AD1 teams and here is the result with state rank in parenthesis: Angleton 3-0 (23) La Porte 0-3 (31) Friendswood 1-2 (38) Kingwood Park 1-2 (52) Crosby 0-3 (56) NC Porter 1-2 (72) FB Kempner 3-0 (76) Pasadena 1-2 (112) You may or may not agree, but it sounds reasonable to me. CCRed Posted September 27 Report Posted September 27 Crosby sits on top of the district, alone in 1st place. I had to get that out there now, might be the only district game we win. BHFAN 1 Quote

Cougtalk Posted October 2 Author Report Posted October 2 Friendswood at Crosby almost assuredly sets the tone for the rest of the year. Crosby wins maybe then can squeak a playoff spot they lose and it's like another 1-2 win season. Quote

Preparing for Pasadena's offense last week will give Crosby a head start for preparing for Friendswood's offense. Why? They both run an RPO based spread attack. Angleton's coach mentioned this since Angleton faces Friendswood next week after Pasadena this week. Of course, Friendswood's players will be a lot bigger. Angleton's task against Friendswood next week will be made harder because of the revenge factor. Angleton has a 5 game win streak going against Friendswood including 49-14 last year. I assume Crosby will at the least will have 2 more wins against Porter and Kempner since they are currently ranked above them. Quote

purple reign Posted October 9 Report Posted October 9 6th week scores: Angleton 80, Pasadena 0 Crosby 28, Friendswood 14 La Porte 42, Kingwood Park 6 Porter 10, Kempner 9 From the 1st 2 weeks of district, it doesn't appear Pasadena, Porter, or Kempner have much chance of making the playoffs. Crosby's impressive win makes them look like they are probably in and K Park's chances looking a little dim after they were beaten so badly. I still think Friendswood's chances are still pretty good despite the loss. I see they did slightly better against Ball than did highly regarded PA Memorial. Cougtalk 1 Quote

I love that you're doing this btw thanks for that. I don't think Crosby is going to hang with Angleton, and LP should also be favored, that being said Crosby's offense has to continue to improve or we could find ourselves on the bad end of Porter, Kempner or KPark because we cannot expect the defense to never make a mistake. Crosby loss to Dayton looks worse now given they lost their starting QB, think those two programs have gone in opposite directions since week one. Iowa Colony and FB Marshall both only have one loss and that is to Randle who might be a 5AD2 juggernaut if their early season is any indication who likely has that district on lockdown after beating both FB Marshall and Iowa Colony back to back. Crazy to think Iowa Colony vs FB Marshall likely decides 2 & 3 in that district. Quote

This Friendswood team has been very competitive against good opponents but Crosby punched them in the mouth in this game. Quote
OlDawg Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Right now, I’m looking at: 1. Angleton/La Porte toss up 3. Crosby 4. Friendswood Lot of ball left to be played though… Quote

Cougtalk Posted October 18 Author Report Posted October 18 Pasadena might be historically bad. They are currently outscored 232-0 in district play. They have scored 7 points this year in a game versus Houston Bellaire. Quote
