Guest abovetherim Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Rosemont, Ill – DePaul’s Draelon Burns tied a career-high with 32 points, hitting 8-of-8 three-pointers to lead the Blue Demons to an 85-70 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.Burns was nearly perfect from the field hitting 11 of the 13 shots he took in a near flawless game, as he hit both of the free throws he shot and did not turn the ball over. As a team, the Blue Demons torched the net from beyond the three-point line, hitting 14-of-20, which converts to 70 percent – for the entire game. “DePaul’s three-point shooting was the key to the game,†head coach Perry Clark said. “I thought Burns really dominated the game. Anytime you have a guy that hits eight-straight three pointers, things are going your way.â€The Islanders (1-3) came out and took a six-point lead with 11:31 to go in the half after thanks to an 8-0 run capped off with a Tim Green three-pointer to give them an 18-12 advantage. Green finished with 14 points and five assists as three players finished in double-figures with Kevin Perkins leading the way with a career-high 19. The Blue Demons matched that with a 10-0 run with 3:55 to go to give them a nine-point advantage – their largest of the half. During that span, Burns knocked down back-to-back three’s in less than 30 seconds. A&M-Corpus Christi closed out the half with a 12-6 run with Burns converting a layup with thee seconds to play to give DePaul a 38-35 advantage at the break. The Islanders seemed to play catch-up for most of the second half as Justin Reynolds, who scored the team’s first seven points, made the back end of a pair of layups, to tie the game at 44 with 16:06 to go. Mac Koshwal quickly answered with back-to-back layups with to give the Blue Demons a four point advantage. A&M-Corpus Christi took its first lead of the half when Isaiah Jackson hit a three-pointer with 11:11 to go to give the Islanders a 56-55 advantage. Burns would take the lead right back with another three-pointer, giving DePaul a 58-56 edge which they would not lose the rest of the way. DePaul closed out the half with an 18-8 run which included three three-point baskets, two by Burns as the Blue Demons improved to 2-2 on the year.The Islanders will finally return home to the American Bank Center when they host Troy at 3 p.m.
