A BUC 77 Posted July 30 Report Share Posted July 30 Well, we got a starter. It came with a high price. Kikuchi is a hard thrower and can strike out a bunch of guys but he's not having a good year. IMO I don't think Verlander wants to play anymore, I think he is going to ride out his contract and retire. Alos I thought that was what the farm system was for. To bring up kids that are showing great promise. Any way we salvage game 3 on a 4 hit 5-4 win. Pitt had 9 hits. The bats are still too erratic. Red hot one game, ice cold for next three games. We've got to break that cycle. I'm worried Seattle and Texas are about to go on a second half run. The bats have been solid all year. The reason for the turn around is the pitching. In late game situations, when trailing, the Astros were trending in the wrong direction getting runs across the plate. That's what I meant about erratic. I should have said scoring and not hitting. I know I heard Robert Ford say the Astros were 11th or 12th in runs scored, which was a drop off from last season. I like your stats about the improved pitching. I enjoy the increased chatter about the Astros. Are you leaning toward a second half run? Wait and see? They have been top 8 all season in that dept. (reached as high as 4th a couple of weeks ago). Early in the season, Houston was 13th out of 15 teams in runs allowed in the American League. Now they sit 6th. Again, it's not the offense (been avg. over 4.5 runs a game all season). Yes, maybe they have not been so clutch late in games with runners in scoring position but the fact is they have been top 5 in scoring the last 2 1/2 months.
