This was my first year not to have a vote since the early 2000's. Who was on the committee this time?

Only about 9 voted. Maybe 10

I think a few never sent in a ballot.

Personally, I don't know why you didn't remain a voter unless you chose not to be one.

During the fall I was asked by someone with the organization for my number while I was at Academy. I told them I would be interested in helping out and voting, but I was never contacted. Wishing them the very best, but it's getting tougher and tougher for them I know. I helped out with the Bum Phillips Coach of the Year voting after the passing of Bob West. While my focus is definitely on my family now, I'm always here to help when I can.

Congratulations to the winners. The WRS awards always draws attention due to what it represents. For an athlete to be nominated by his coaches, then to be selected as a finalist by the committee is a real honor for these young men.

I have to agree that it seemed this year there was less effort and desire in the Lions Club hosting the event. It is a lot of work: I hope for the upcoming athletes it can continue.

The kid from Kirbyville had better numbers overall.

Smith had 109 tackles, 23 for loss, 6 sacks

Melvin had 152 tackles, 30 for loss, 10 sacks

I wonder hiw many pick six Melvin had or just interceptions?

Melvin had 2 INT's

Smith had 3 INT's

These stats were sent to us by their coaches.

I know this is gonna come across as biased, and that's ok to me.

a player is considered as the #1 player at his position in the state but does not win  this local area award.

Kind of apples and oranges.

Award has always been about the season a player has and not what he is projected to be or ranked.

I look at like college awards. Been many a player not win a Heisman and be a better pro than that Heisman winner.

I do get what you are saying but some of the voters went strictly by the numbers. Can't really fault them for that.

This is one reason why this award has lost its credibility.

I think Fred went to TCU. A good friend of mine was there with Tomlinson and Fred was there at thr same time. My buddy transfered from Georgia to TCU named Lawson Cooper LB.
