hopefully Newton gets back to lights out defense. We have won state the years we have been a complete team. Good defense, good offense, and a QB that can throw the ball .   Lights out defense gives the offense more opportunities to score. Defense should be better this year. QB is a question for me this year.  We have a lot of good players coming up.
anyone know if they have replaced the coach or coaches we lost.

Agreed, a”lights out defense” definitely gives the offense more opportunities to score. I have even seen scenarios where a “lights out offense” helps the defenses.

Have also noticed that many State Champions frequently have a “good defense, good offense and a QB that can throw the ball”.

Uhhh they only won by 1 or 2 points last yr. Guess we shall see! Don't put the cart before the Eagle!!!

Lost by 5 points last year and beat them by 1 the year before and lost by 20 3 years ago.

Woodville is 24-41 against Newton and has only beaten them once since 1994.

With Woodville getting a new QB if I had to bet on the game today Would pick Newton

Newton— speed, speed, speed, speed, speed. 5 Underclassman who can literally fly.

Newton will also have a lot of size, strength, and experience up front. That will probably be the most significant advantage vs Woodville

Zaylon Williams and Dustin Barlow

I found the stats
Williams  23/24  657 yds rushing   Receiving 6/25 yds.
22/23.  38 yds rushing  1/1 receiving

Dustin stats. Has not played much varsity but is a big young good power running back.

I don't have the stats but I'm pretty sure Zayon had more than 25 yards receiving in just the first game alone. 38 yards rushing is obviously not accurate either. Dustin got a few carries here and there and was also utilized as a HB/TE type the last couple district games and in the playoffs

Then find his stats and post them. The site i got them from could be wrong. Woodville site. With a QB already rated no. 1 by A&M and two elite running backs, Woodville will  have no problem with newton.
Newton - nothing to see here.  😀

Don't kidd yourself. It'll always be tough trying to defeat the super speedy Purple Gang

I do think Woodville has a very good program and will I will be pulling for them when they are not playing Newton because they are in our district.
I think they are  about two more steps to go to be a good playoff contended.
example, last year they lost in the second round to Columbus who lost to Lorena who then lost to Franklin.

The 38 yds was yr. before last. Only sowed a few carries.

He was the starting rb the year before also. Probably had over a thousand yards both seasons. The stats your looking at are probably incomplete or something

Dustin year before last was a freshman and probably  played JV ball and was probably on the varsity when moved up for the playoffs. Stats are probably right for varsity.

I thought you were talking about Zayon. Which stats are you saying are correct for Dustin? The 22/23 stats can't be correct because he didn't play any varsity at all that year and his numbers were way higher than that on jv.

Did the Woodville QB pick up offers from Baylor and Texas Tech, thought I saw that somewhere

Yes he has, and he has not played a down of varsity football. SMH   Coaches can’t say they have had anything to do with his success. He and his parents get all the credit.

Yea , I'm surprised. I figured he'd make a good D1 QB. Never would have guessed he'd have 2 power 5 offers before the end of his freshman year though. Can't wait to see him in action this upcoming season

    • Very close game until the 2nd half (mostly the 4th) when Orangefield came unraveled. Worse defensive effort I have seen out of the Bobcats in three years. This team has to get back on D and quit getting beat over the top when pressing. Offensively, non ball handlers continually turn it over and their shot selection is poor. Basic basketball, such as: defensive hustle, boxing out, and taking care of the basketball are the areas the Bobcats need to work on most. Whitmire will get them on point, but he shouldn't have to coach effort at the Varsity Level.
    • I don’t benefit from it, that’s not my area.  But the average cost to imprison someone is around $15k per year (on average in the US) and capital cases cost somewhere between $1.5-$3M with over half being overturned or reduced to life in prison anyway.  These numbers may be inflated since the last report I read but I’m sure it would be on both sides and higher on the DP side if anything. So what’s the point?  We feel better because we got to return the favor on someone (hopefully) who committed a heinous crime?  And I don’t know I can say we have “complicated” it. Which appeal should we cut out?  Our justice system has a pecking order and we have higher courts for a reason. When we are about to impose the ultimate judgment, should we cut steps that other cases have to save a buck?  Or do we not pay for an indigent person’s experts at the trial court level because it’s too expensive? Or do we just lock them up and throw away the key (unless we later find out they weren’t actually guilty, in which case we have a key and a life we haven’t unjustly ended) and save a ton of money?  Seems to me to be an easy and obvious solution but I’m more of a pragmatist.
    • 1 thing for certain. Coach Earned 3 more years to figure it out lol
    • @CIS_org National Security Senior Fellow @BensmanTodd tells Steve Bannon how the U.S. State Department and USAID have been sending American taxpayer funds to religious nonprofits to facilitate mass immigration to our southern border. Bensman says 248 nonprofits are participating in the United Nations’ 2024 agenda to distribute $1.6 billion in cash, transportation, food, and shelter to U.S.-bound immigrants across Mexico and Latin America.
