Guest coachacola Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 http://www.coacheshotseat.com/SalariesContracts.htmThis lists the salaries and contracts of 110 FBS football coaches. Mack Brown is ranked 7th at $2,751,000 per year. Todd Dodge is ranked 97th at $261,000 per year.Although Lamar won't start out FBS, how much you think Lamar will pay their coach next year?
Guest abovetherim Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 I heard some talk that the yearly football budget will start out around $1.5 million annually. If that is the case, I would say the HC could make between $200,000 and $300,000 and be within the annual budget. Now, this is just rumor. I didn't not hear this from an athletic official or at a Cardinal Club luncheon and my wife did not tell me this. I heard these figures at one of the basketball games. I'd take it with a gain of salt but it is the fugures I heard.
Guest coachacola Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 A $1.5 million yearly budget for football is a little below average for the SLC. I'd like to see the budget closer to $2 million a year. Here's the latest list I have of football budgets (in millions):

Texas State$2.44

SFA $2.16

SELA$1.89

NW St$1.75

McNeese$1.65

SHSU$1.47

Nicholls State$1.00

UCA$0.95

I'll have to do some research to get the coaches salaries in the SLC.
Guest abovetherim Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Like I said, it is just rumor the figures I heard. I doubt Billy Tubbs and Dr. Simmons will bring back football and not have the budget up toward the top of the SLC or even higher.
UNLV Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 LU needs to pony up a lot more money than $1.5 million. You have to spend money to make money. I think LU should pay high the first few years. $500k for a big name coach, good salary for great recruiting assistants, maybe as high as $5 million per year football program. After as few years, then drop to something more affordable. This way our chances of winning fast is high. Winning means fans. Winning means support. Support and fans means inviteto FBS.
Guest coachacola Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Texas State and SFA spend the most on football and they aren't that successfull (kinda like us and our basketball program). Somewhere around $2 million is probably all they need to spend a year. I hope they spend the money on building the nicest facilities in the SLC. If they want an impact coach then they'll have to spend extra money for him. Should be very interesting on who they go with as head coach.
