It is amazing how some schools have all that talent and can't make it to the big game.

While other schools that have average talent win state.

Some kids just have a lot of quit in ‘em.

Jk… in Silsbee’s case, I think that it’s a community/personality thing. Sometimes being really gifted athletically is a hinderance to the hard work and sacrifices it takes to win it all.

We haven’t had anywhere near the success in baseball that Silsbee has had in basketball, but the communities are alike in that they have certain expectations for one program and completely lower expectations for their football programs.

I’ve got the opinion that the Silsbee community doesn’t have the stomach for a coach that would demand the behaviors necessary to win an SC. You’re not getting better at football by playing AAU games or select ball… and when a lot of your best athletes focus on a sport other than football, the football gods will make you pay.

Would be interested in seeing the regional champions in the small school divisions from the days before state championships were played in the lower classifications added to this list. The original Port Neches Indians won regional championships in 1946 and ‘47, when that was the highest they could go. Finished one of those two seasons undefeated, as I recall.

We played San Augustine in 2001 when they had a pretty decent team, and one of my best friends sealed the game with a pick late, stepping out of bounds about 3 feet from me to end it.  several seconds after he did this a San Augustine player came and suplexed him so close to me that my buddy's legs slammed into mine, almost taking me out.  I then hit the player with the closest thing I could find, which happened to be the helmet I had in my hand, and got in a fair bit of trouble (I was from then on known as "Helmet Swinger").   That said, I kinda kept up with their team after that, and also because I went to college in Marshall, not far from San Augustine.  I remember the San Augustine championship, in 2003, and how random it felt. I wonder how many teams have gone 3-5-1 one year, won a state championship the next, and then the follow that up with a 4-5 campaign.  Feels like it's probably a pretty short list.

To be fair, I hate on EVERYBODY.

Silsbee just seems to come up in the rotation more often.

So, what you are saying is -- you are an equal opportunity pisser offer?!    (Grin)

CB, the resident Silsbee hater.

You folks would laugh if you knew why he hates on Silsbee so much. lol

557-386-29 Not to shabby for the Tigers. Their record against BC is 39-8-2 Most wins against any school
