weslinder
Appalachian State is in the Boonies. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up It's a long way from anywhere. It'd be like Stephen F. Austin recruiting locally. There just isn't enough talent. The greater Beaumont area has tons more talent than the greater Boone area. There's a lot more opportunity to recruit locally here.
CraigS
Appalachian State is in the Boonies. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up It's a long way from anywhere. It'd be like Stephen F. Austin recruiting locally. There just isn't enough talent. The greater Beaumont area has tons more talent than the greater Boone area. There's a lot more opportunity to recruit locally here.Fair enough, however, I could have used University of Delaware and had similar results.........and they are approx. right in the middle of Baltimore, MD and Philadelphia, PA...........and the "local" (within 80 miles)numbers are the same.I have also looked at programs that are considered "pretty good" but not NC contenders, now their numbers seem to have more "local" players (within 80 miles).I just think we have a mixture of opinions about what it will take for Lamar football to succeed. Some say local talent, some say win! The perfect situation would be to win with local talent, however, after looking at several programs around the country, this doesn't seem to be a common denominator.........they are either local and are just ok, or recruit regionally or nationally, and comptete deep into the playoffs. Some on here are bias about the level of talent we have here in the GT (compared to other parts of Texas or even the country).........yes we do have some, however, they usually play at bigger schools........Lamar must recruit on a "talent first" basis, without regards to where they are from...JMO!However, I do agree, that the process of hiring of the Head Coach is the most IMPORTANT part of building the foundation to a successful program at Lamar! If they get that part right........the rest will fall into place!
