Restaurateurs in California are starting to take their own action showing disapproval of the newly-enacted statewide $20 minimum wage. "We have a very finite set of economic conditions that need to be met for us to make money. And certainly, this bill has cast doubt [as] to whether we can continue in this state," Alex Johnson, owner of five Cinnabon and five Auntie Anne’s locations in San Francisco, said on "Varney & Co." Tuesday. "I've already started to invest in the neighboring state of Nevada," he continued, "where there just isn't so much regulation, there isn't so many different types of people telling you how to run your business." Johnson has reportedly committed to only invest in future franchise opportunities in Nevada, claiming that the Golden State’s recent $20 minimum wage law will cost him $470,000 across 10 restaurants. LumRaiderFan
This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up From the article: Another California small business and its workers have seemingly suffered at the hands of the state’s newly enacted $20 minimum wage. "It's a shock," Monica Navarro, former assistant general manager at Foster’s Freeze in Lemoore, said on "The Bottom Line" Wednesday. "It would have been nice to have a notice so we could go get some applications [out], I could prepare them," she continued. "The best I can do is honestly give them some references." When making their way to work Monday morning, Navarro and her team learned upon arrival that the restaurant owner had made the decision to close its doors for good. The owner, Loren Wright, told local Fox affiliate KMPH that this was the "last thing" they wanted to do, but knew by Friday night the business likely wouldn’t be able to absorb the wage hike and didn’t "want to ruin their Easter Sunday." We seemed to have moved dangerously away from minimum wage jobs being reserved for part-time workers and students. This experiment is definitely not working.
