KFDM COOP Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Astros make another trade... Astros just made another trade:Acquire RH reliever/closer Jose Valverde from Arizonafor 2B Chris BurkeRHP Juan GutierrezRHP Chad Qualls
STiger85 Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 I can't beleave this. Qualls is gone. I can remember his first year here and the fans were calling him Chad Balls because he walked alot of people. Now he was one I was hoping would stay. Dang it.
KFDM COOP Posted December 15, 2007 Author Report Posted December 15, 2007 I don't know what to think!
Razor Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 I thought Qualls was a very good set up man, but the need at closer was MUCH greater. I hate to see Qualls go, but they did get a first rate closer. Now if they could just shore up that starting rotation behind Oswalt?
BigB BigD Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 I agree, I hate to see Qualls go but he I did not envision him as a full time closer. He may prove me wrong but he is a good setup guy, not a closer for a contending team.
AJ25 Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 qualls was the best reliever we had, but valverde is one of the best closers in baseball. soo.. i'm not sure.
2throwrundown Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Time will tell on Valverde. I cannot agree that he is one of the best closers in baseball. True he led the NL in saves last season, lets just hope he is not a flash in the pan type guy. The Astros keep making these 3 for 1, 5 for 1 deals. Hopefully they make some very good draft choices in the next 5 years.

venom33 Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 It amazes me that all these years everyone complained that the Astros would never open the checkbook to get quality, all star caliber players instead they hung on to the deadwood "feel good story" players... but now the checkbook is open and the players are coming and yet people still complain.
