I have a cousin that is a retired D1 head coach that played professionally and coached in the NFL Europe league that will tell you same. It's pretty self-evident that an injury can hurt a player's recruiting stock.

You and I agree completely, I was also told to never let a child play in any contact sport until Junior High. To many children are injured due to growth plate issues and it prevents them from playing at the high school level. He also suggested that kids specialize in the sport that suits their genetic makeup. There are no more 2 sports stars. The old saying if you are a jack of all trades then you are a master of none is true. If you don’t plan on playing after high school yes by all means play all sports. You are expendable and can be used.

Now one may be a bigger star in one sport over the other but they still remain stars in both sports. 2 sports stars still exist. Most coaches push 1 or the other because it takes away from both. I would say it is rare for athletes to play multiple sports past High School, not impossible. My comment was about high school 2 sport stars which you said doesn't exist anymore. I disagree.

longball24
How many in our area is going to play multiple D1 sports. The last I remember is the Dallas kid from WOS and didn’t he eventually choose 1 over the other.
hitman009
College Coaches in most sports protect their athletes (signed recruits) even in high school. College Coaches have gotten so protective about their baseball recruits that that signed in Nov. that they put them on mandatory pitch counts. If their high school coach breaks their pitch count they are telling the kids to quit the high school baseball team. Also happens in Football. Once they sign a letter of commitment, especially at D1 schools, they tell those kids to NOT PLAY in any all-star games in summer.

Hmm thats news to me and I have one currently playing college baseball. Yet, there are hundreds of high school football players that play in the UA football game and the U.S. Army bowl

In the Juco level and below for the most part they don’t care.

I know who it applies to, but I have not heard of or seen a college put any regulations on anyone still playing high school and I've been around the game for a good while. Met with many recruiters and HC and those were never talked about. Again, I have one playing college baseball.

Unbelievableee
So we want kids to play multiple sports but do not want them lifting heavy weights in season? Only light lifting during the season? For multi sports athletes, that does not leave much time to get a true workout program going. What should happen is this... Football Coach/AD runs athletics. During FOOTBALL OFF SEASON. athletes can go with their head coach of other sport on game days for that sport. If you want to build a true athletic program, the weight room is a huge part of that. 89Falcon and outanup 1

Yes, But it should be tailored to the individual sport the kid is going to play at the next level.

Strength, flexibility and range of motion SHOULD be mandatory in EVERY lifting program. However, we all know that is not the case. Pitchers should definitely be on a different regiment than other athletes. Arm care is serious business. Too many football coaches fail other sports because they simply do not care. There are ways to build strength and power and explosiveness that do not compromise the baseball players ability to throw or the basketball players ability to shoot. Unfortunately, too many football coaches are too lazy to find those alternative options. gogo173489
outanup
The battle over multi sport athletes has been fought forever.....This didn't start 3 weeks ago. Football is one of the few sports that is not played year round. It simply cannot be, too physical and taxing. It requires an offseason of strength training, and conditioning to prepare for a10 to 15 game grind. Coach Rich is installing everything from scratch. A whole new Offense and Defense, from cadence to cleats. And football starts in August. Any AD worth his salt would push his agenda......And as for the social media assault, what's the reason for that? Ill wait........hmmmmmmmmm Right99JOH
