Guest abovetherim Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Eight Cardinals Received Their Diplomas last Saturday Dec. 19, 2007Nearly 100 Lamar University student-athletes posted grade-point averages of 3.0 or better for the recently completed Fall 2007 academic semester. A total of 19 student-athletes received a 4.0 gpa, with 51 notching a 3.5 or better gpa and 98 securing at least a 3.0 gpa. All of those numbers are the most for a single semester since Fall 2001, when Helene Thill, Assistant Athletic Director for Academics, arrived at Lamar. The men's tennis team posted the highest overall team gpa with a 3.33 average, while the women's cross country squad ranked first among women's teams with a 3.31 gpa. "These numbers just show how hard our student-athletes work in the classroom as well as with each of their particular sports," said Thill. Additionally, eight Lamar athletes participated in commencement exercises last Saturday at the Montagne Center.
