Playoff Division 1 & Divison 2 for basketball

Recommended Posts

Saw this in the baseball forum and thought I'd bring it up here

Looks like the playoffs could be modled after football, creating a Div 1 and a Div 2.

How would that help/hurt your team(s)?

I was just told about this yesterday.

It will be after regular season ends then split for playoffs so this will not effect the realignment.

State basketball tournament will now be state championship games only. No semifinals. Friday and Saturday (6 games each day). Semifinals will be held at wherever the venues the two coaches agree upon. Also, no more regional tourneys.

Personally, I don't like this change if it does happen.

If it’s implemented for next season (Which I’ve heard a few people say it will be)…. It helps Kountze tremendously because Hitchcock would go to the D1 bracket…

Legislative Council voted to approve the proposal.

Starting this coming school year, will be 2 state champions in each classification for boys and girls basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball.

Will be no more regional basketball tournaments and no semifinals played at state basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball tournaments. Only state championship games played at state tourney.

Personally, I don't like this at all. Really don't like doing the split after district play. Could have at least waited till next realignment so they could have divisional districts.

This also shortens the playoffs by 1 game until next realignment.

The UIL has approved the proposal to split divisions for the playoffs for volleyball, softball, baseball, soccer, and basketball. This change will create two State Championship brackets (similar to football). This change is effective August 1, 2024.

Couldn’t they have just used the same districts as football? I know that district schedules and non district schedules for sports have already been decided. At least for volleyball and most of basketball. What am I missing?

Some schools don’t play football… some schools don’t play volleyball

That is true. The schools that don’t play those sports would be placed in the district their enrollment corresponds with. I am sure that amount of switching would be difficult this late and that is the reason. I just thought that would be an easy transition. Probably not.

I don't either.
