2wedge Posted August 8 Report Posted August 8 Has anyone had their school's practices cancelled due to excessive heat? I am hearing it's happening more and more lately. Quote

monknuk68 Posted August 8 Report Posted August 8 You have to get used to the heat no matter how hot. Precautions must be taken but you will have to play in the heat sooner or later. You cannot cancel a game because of heat just reschedule if needed. Play the conditions as well as well as the other team. 2wedge 1 Quote
Right99JOH Posted August 8 Report Posted August 8 Make kids get out from in front of the TV/Computer/Playstation and go outside!! Make sure they are well hydrated with the proper fluids and sugar filled drinks. NOT rocket science. 2wedge, bulldawg64, RETIREDFAN1 and 1 other 4 Quote

Most schools have a plan to handle the heat and will adjust practice times accordingly..once school starts its a little tougher but you can make it work with some creativity Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote

1970 Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 Yes, it's too hot for practice. I played 18 holes of golf yesterday, from ~8:30 - 12:30, then worked in our garden yesterday afternoon, and it was way too hot for this 72 year old. So, those youngsters should definitely stay inside and drink Liquid IV or Gatoraid or whatever. Edit: There was an good moving tide yesterday morning and evening. Not too hot to fish, but sometimes choices must be made. Sledge 1 Quote
topher805 Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 Cancelling or moving practice depends on whether or not schools are following the UIL recommendations for the new "Wet Bulb" heat measurement. Some schools are, some aren't. It isn't policy yet, but I'd expect if UIL is recommending it now, they will be making it policy in the not distant future... skipmeister Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 It was a pretty hot morning yesterday mowing my lawn! My shirt was all drenched in sweat! I try to get my yard work done either early or late in the day. Quote

PAT00 Posted August 12 Report Posted August 12 Here in Dfw some schools practice in the morning before school starts. When it gets cooler outside they switch to after school. Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote

My understanding is it will be "mandatory" in 2025..... Not sure how they will pice it, but..... Quote
