The Memorial Titans picked up a tough 57-52 win over Louisiana LaGrange on Saturday night to claim a consolation prize in the Cameron State Bank Holiday Hoops Invitational.

Even without its star, J’Covan Brown, Port Arthur moves to 7-7 overall on the season with much thanks to some great play from Harry Brown, who scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds against LaGrange.

Brown was named to the All-Tournament team, leading the Titans to a 2-1 record over the weekend in what was a very competitive bracket.

Titans head coach Turrel Henderson said J’Covan is suspended indefinitely, meaning there is no “time table†on his return to the team.

The star shooting guard left the team in the middle of the fourth quarter during the Titans Dec. 14 game with Humble. Henderson said that J’Covan’s actions on Dec. 14 violated team and athletic policies and J’Covan’s return would be determined at a later date.

J’Covan has not played since the first half of the game with Humble.

Henderson said the focus is not on J’Covan, but on the welfare of the rest of the team and the future of the team’s season.

“We’re focused on each game we play,†Henderson said. “We played three really good games this weekend and our guys played hard. We almost won all of those games. And all of those games were against some very tough opponents.â€

Port Arthur beat Louisiana St. John’s 61-49 Friday but suffered a 58-40 loss to a top-ranked Louisiana St. Louis team Thursday.

“We’re focused on getting better for district,†Henderson said, “so we can get to the playoffs. We’re focused on the future and for now, that is the Gamble Classic.â€

The Gamble Classic starts Thursday at Memorial where the Titans will play Beaumont’s Richard Milburn and Houston Eisenhower.

En route to Saturday’s consolation round victory, Harry Brown was joined by Jacorey Tyler, who scored 14 points, pulled down eight rebounds and made three steals, while Jamarcus Jones dropped in six points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked two shots. Also for the Titans, Darrius Harris had seven rebounds, three points and three blocks.
