I've followed a little. To me, I can't see how someone would go to this extreme knowing he would be investigated. 

So I have some doubt that he may be guilty for some reason.

I have no clue, but I do know that money (and the pursuit thereof) can make people pretty stupid sometimes.

Especially if they think they can outsmart the investigation or that they are too well known for an investigation to be pushed.
