The freshman still starting at QB? He's gonna be really good one day just think he's to young right now. They're more than capable to win the region.

Yup the freshman still at QB1, their skill position guys are legit, their defense can be a bit shaky when playing a good opponent though.

So why, exactly, did BH not go for the field goal at the end of the game?  I know they got down to the 2 and then got sacked twice but did they not have any time outs or did Coach Abseck lose track of the clock or something else happen, or what?

It reminded me of the Deer Park game. I'm not sure what they were doing. Still don't know why they passed the ball at the 2 in the 1st half when 26 was getting around 3-4 yards a carry.

BH has no killer instinct. One of our posters lamented this when we lost to Deer Park in OT. If a game is going down to the wire, or into overtime BH will likely lose. A few years ago we lost to A&M Consolidated in the final seconds of a 2nd round game. Lost to Richland after blowing them out in the first half of 2nd round last year. etc. This is what playing a finesse style game gets you. Now think of the best wins BH had. Physically rammed the ball right down #4 FBM's throat and shocked the world! Blasted PAM last year with blood in our eye, Hammered Forney and McKinney North, etc. It can be done when BH plays wide open, full intensity, physical football.

If BH can rediscover that physical intensity, and let our big QB run ahead like a mad man instead of always looking for a hook slide well short of the stick, BH can reinvent themselves. I am NOT bashing the QB. He may be instructed to do all the hook slides, I don't know. I do know he is not a pure passer. He has a very stong arm but accuracy is a big issue. I also know he can plow ahead into a defense and make 2 yards almost every single time. Had that happened from the 2 at the end of the half, and again at the end of the game, I have no doubt BH wins. Don't overthink it, play to your strength! Come on BH, lets play Man-ball again!

I also said they would struggle against everyone. Up until 4 min left that 4th place was looking like a real possibility. We ain’t beating Lufkin. So we get 3rd and a first rd exit… let’s not split hairs

I don't think they making a deep run, but no one in this district is losing in the 1st round. The 4th place team will most likely play Waltrip or Galena Park

I'm not sure who you are Separation Scientist, but you and I are on the same page entirely.  BH has not played tough, physical football for 4 full quarters in years (before the Gage hiring).  I feel it has 99% to do with how we work in the offseason.  I know we lift weights and spend a great deal of time lifting those weights and doing footwork drills, etc., ......but are we hurting and learning to fight through the pain and get to that next level and continue on?  I firmly believe in quality over quantity.  Do the coaches work the kids until exhaustion and then continue pushing them?  I know the answer.... they do not!  We practice in an indoor air conditioned taj mahal even when the weather is great.  It is much different than what the BH offseason program was in the nineties and early 2000s....and the programs of Katy and PNG of today.  We worked through multiple agility, plyo, mat drills, bleachers, hill training, weight training circuits until we were puking and after we finished non-stop motion for 50 minutes all groups would meet on the track to run a quarter for time.  If you didn't make the time you had to run it again.  We did this every day and would routinely test strength and speed (included a mile run for time...which hasn't happened at BH in years...yes, big boys can run a mile) ....and 90% of all athletes would improve in both strength and speed throughout the offseason.  This all took place in 4th period of the school day, and it got results.  We didn't have any big, sloppy dudes because they couldn't make it through the offseason (they lost weight and became hosses.... or quit) and our numbers were streamlined to only include those that really wanted to be there and put in the work.  One thing that didn't happen is we didn't have kids lay out injured on the field.  I do not remember many, if any, ever getting hurt or missing a game.  I contribute that to how we worked in the offseason.  Until we get the program back to this way of thinking and working, we will continue to be mediocre.  We have twice the athletes and numbers today than we did then so it would be fun to see the results.  It can be done.  Not sure it will be done.

It won’t be done until BH Coaching/Admin gets it done which they won’t because they’ve grown complacent and believe their own hype.  The fact that the 3 nearest programs to them, (REL/RSS/GCM), aren’t nearly on their level lends to this mentality of BH being the best and if they already believe they’re great why push harder and work out in that hot sun when they’re already great?  20-30 years ago, BH was a country-boy team.  Hard-nosed, scrappy, and surrounded by other decent programs so BH always had a chip on their shoulder and something to prove so they’d outwork those other big-city programs.  Today?  BH becomes more and more high-dollar suburb with each Riceland house sold and all the BH Coaches and players hear all day long is how great they are.  Well, if that’s all they ever hear, and they coast into playoffs each year due at least in some part to the schedule they play and quality of their opponents, then there’s no chip on their shoulder.  They need to get that chip back on their shoulder.

BH keeps low-key signaling that they’re 6A ready, like scheduling all 6A opponents in out-of-district this year.  They’re never going to be if they don’t do just like other posters on here are saying and toughen up.  Can you imagine what would happen in 2026 when UIL redraws districts again if they dropped GCM down and bumped BH up in GCM’s place?  It won’t matter how nice “The Indoor” is or how much they pay their Coach.  BH enrollments are already close to the 6A cutoff and if they don’t get right they’ll get humbled in 6A

I lived there from 2000 - 2015, and didn't really have a dog in the fight, so I didn't follow the football too closely, but I recall that BH moved up rather quickly from 3A I think, to 4A, to 5A. The head coach and other coaches and trainer, had been there a while, and always seemed just a game away from going to state. Then the HC got fired, more or less, others moved on, retired, or passed away (I knew one coach personally, who lost a hard fought battle with cancer).  The area has really grown very rapidly, and I'm not sure what old traditions are still there, just looking from a distance.

You guys are spot on about BH. My kids are grown, but hopefully for the younger generation, they change some things. I was told they have 5:30 am practices all year long. From what I’ve seen the last couple of years, I’m not sure how productive those early morning workouts are. It appears the boys aren’t retaining the information, soft workouts, or coaching quality isn’t there. Not sure which one, but scheduling soft 6A teams and beating them doesn’t make you 6A ready. Now saying that, all of our sports can compete at 6A level right now with exception of football unless we’re put in Pasadena district.

They lost one of those 3 out of district games too, to Deer Park in double overtime.

See, it’s not just about BH moving up to 6A, it’s about what 6A District they’re going to go into.  GCCISD is redrawing attendance zones this Summer to get GCM back down to 5A when UIL redraws Districts in 2026.  That means UIL will have to fill that empty spot and BH is only 15 minutes from GCM so they’d be the obvious choice.  Oh yeah, did I mention that the 6A District I’m talking about is District 23?  The toughest District in the state?  #3 North Shore, #5 Atascocita, #20 Summer Creek, #60 CE King, #150 Kingwood, #160 Humble all in that District.  #734 Channelview is the only easy win in that District after GCM drops down.  If GCM ends up dropping down and BH goes up it means no more playoffs for BH, they’d be permanent 5th-6th place if that happens UNLESS they find a way to REALLY toughen up.  Better to do it now before they make the jump.

BH has those UIL connections… they won’t be in that district. They avoided coming to the golden triangle for years, until forced. Schools had to drive and pass up BH on the highway to go play a couple district game down the road….

I don’t think they’ll be able to duck going into District 23 if GCM drops down.  What excuse will they have?  What other 6A District is there for them?  BH against the Pasadena teams?  Besides, Barber’s Hill=New Baytown so with GCM out of District 23 it’s only fitting that BH take their place!

    • Ok. Here me out. I hate generalizing but bear with me.    this has always been my issue with the Double Wing T / Slot T / Wing T.    it’s not that it’s not a good offensive scheme it actually is very good.    That type of offense is absolutely brutal to not only the running back and the quarterback, but also the lineman. To complicate things even further most of your athletes on offense, skill players will be playing on defense where they will get the majority of the contact.    By the time the player gets to mid third-quarter or fourth, the skill players are completely exhausted from running up to middle and being tackled every 3 yards x 6 people on top of them and then have to turn around and run and chase the other offense down.    Cold spring running back was absolutely destroying the line of scrimmage, gaining 3/4 yards at a time and he did that for about 50/60 yards and his body just gave out he was probably exhausted because he probably played 70 to 80% of all the place. Playing 80% of the plays on both offense or defense is completely different at running back then at wide receiver like Travis Hunter.     all this to say is the running of the wing T double wing T slot T is OK for liberty Hill because they have 5/6 running backs that are just as good as the starter but even two years ago injury caused them to lose a very big game, by a lot of points against PNG     even though Orangefield‘s running back had 34 carries the majority of those carries were out on the flank and where he was only tackled by a few players, whereas Coldsprings  running backs were tackled by five or six of Orangefield players, and that wears a kids body down   None of what I’m saying is science all I’m saying is based off the last 14 years of seeing Orangefield run that kind of often it took a toll on running backs for the last 12 years the only one I can think that did not get hurt during his career was The kid that got 2,000 in a season.
    • What a tough 5A district with 4 teams ranked in the top 20. Should be fun to see it play out.
    • Y’all need to stop ragging on Weak Brook and instead send them all the positive energy that you can so that they can become Strong Brook and beat New Baytown on Nov 8. BTW, for those who don’t know, nothing irritates a Mont Belvieu/Barber’s Hill resident more than calling their town “New Baytown” and their High School “New Baytown High”.  I’ve already got an Old Man in my inbox on here mad because I slandered his precious team.  Just thought I’d mention it since we’re discussing school nicknames and stuff like that.
