Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted October 15 Report Posted October 15 Calpreps has this 35-17 Titans over Weak Brooke. I figured they would have a 15-17pt spread, 18 is close enough. I think it comes down to the start of the 4th quarter, then the Titans pull away, similar to a certain 2021 non-district game. 🤷🏾♂️ Quote
Goslin Posted October 15 Report Posted October 15 Y’all need to stop ragging on Weak Brook and instead send them all the positive energy that you can so that they can become Strong Brook and beat New Baytown on Nov 8. BTW, for those who don’t know, nothing irritates a Mont Belvieu/Barber’s Hill resident more than calling their town “New Baytown” and their High School “New Baytown High”. I’ve already got an Old Man in my inbox on here mad because I slandered his precious team. Just thought I’d mention it since we’re discussing school nicknames and stuff like that. 5GallonBucket, Big Daddy Cool and Mr. Buddy Garrity 3 Quote

Here’s the backstory. BH is adjacent to Baytown. For many years was Baytown’s Country Cousin. Folks in BH loved to brag about how great Country living was compared to the Big City but always had a chip on their shoulder about being the smaller, Country, community next to Big Bad Baytown. As Baytown’s School District, GCCISD, has allowed Baytown schools to get worse and worse year over year, more and more Baytonians have moved to Barber’s Hill or used addresses of relatives to send their kids to Barber’s Hill or take jobs with BHISD so their kids can go there. There is a MASSIVE new residential/commercial project going on right now called Riceland. It’s on-par with Kingwood/Woodlands in size and scope and is right smack dab in the middle of Mont Belvieu/Barber’s Hill. Tons of folks are flocking into that and buying $500k+ homes because they want the illusion of Country living and they like Barber’s Hill’s strict School District that’ll spend millions fighting a kid all the way to the State Supreme Court over a haircut. Barber’s Hill enrollment is only 100 or so from the 6A cutoff, they’re growing at a HUGE rate and a lot of it mid-to-high end stuff that is totally alien to the folks who have lived there for generations. Because the tables are turned, BH residents LOVE to thumb their noses at poor ol’ Baytown but when you remind old-timers that Baytown is basically on their border now plus half their residents are folks who moved from Baytown and brought their Baytown ways with them, plus the fact that they’re no longer really Country and just wearing a costume they get REALLY PO’d about it. Hence why “New Baytown” and “New Baytown High” gets them all worked up. Try it, see what happens. Austin1985 1 Quote

The Bruins are about to play against some of their former teammates this week. 23-26 classes had major defections and some of those kids will play D-1, thus weaken the program. The freshman team is undefeated and the QB and his friends said they were going to rebuild WB. The QB was recruited by over 12 schools from houston thru east texas but stayed with his class. He also went spoke to the 8th graders at his feeder school and got them to come to WB. I think PAM wins the game b/c the WB isn't quite ready yet to compete with them. 4th 0r 5th is where WB will end up, IMO Yeoj 1 Quote

Graduating with an associates if i'm not mistaken. Back ~ 10 years ago when I lived in Plantation (on Cotton Bayou) 5 of the 6 neighbors on our street moved there from North Shore. But I don't doubt the Baytown angle at all. Everyone used to say that the Barber's Hill area was to be the next Katy. What I do know is that the Chambers County taxes (Mont Belvieu) were much less than the Harris County (Baytown) taxes. But also from what I hear, the Barbers Hill school taxes have really been catching up quickly these days. Quote

You think there’s anyone from Old Baytown that could afford a house in Plantation? It’s not that MB/BH taxes are low themselves though they are lower than Baytown, it’s that MB/BH/Cove/Old River/Beach City/etc is all in Chambers County and the County taxes are cheaper PLUS the MB taxes are cheaper. In Baytown you’re paying higher than average City taxes AND GCCISD taxes AND Harris County taxes which are all sky high. BHISD taxes ARE on the way up, though they’ve got a ways to go before they’re as onerous as they are in Baytown. Lawyers arguing for years on BHISD’s behalf all the way to the State Supreme Court over a kids haircut don’t work for free, you know? That’s got to be paid for. Luckily for BH, there’s a certain portion of the population that agrees with the policy AND has the money to buy into a master planned community built around the School District willing to spend taxpayer dollars fighting for it. We’ve talked about this before. Each high school has dual credit classes. They can get college credits before graduating all while able participate in the extra-curricular stuff at the school. I remember a few years back there was a valedictorian at Central that got several college credits all while on the dance team, band, and several other organizations…. Can’t do that at EARLY College… Goslin 1 Quote
