I'm an outside, I have no skin in this game.

PNG should be considered the favorite in this game, they should be the heavy favorite.

That being said PNG has not looked like last years team, they look like a smart, savvy veteran team that is not quite as talented as last year.

Nederland if they want to win needs to punch PNG in the mouth from the moment the game starts until it ends they need to turn this into a brawl as much as a game in the trenches.

PNG is bigger, stronger, more accomplished, and has the better coaching staff and because of all of those reasons I think the dogs take this one, because it's not called mid-county expectations it's called mid-county madness and madness ensures the dogs come out of top.

I think the issue that I've seen with PN-G this year is the secondary they look more talented to me offensively than last year the only guy they are really missing offensively is Shea Adams but Shea could do it all PNG has two capable running backs who have replaced Isaiah Nguyen well

I disagree with this comment! Our passing game isn't close to where it was last year. We have one guy that can beat you deep. Last year we had multiple wr's that could go get the ball. If someone can shut our run game down and take down our top wr then they can beat us. The problem is shutting the run game down. Our defense don't have near the speed we had last year either. We can be beat in the passing game. Big changes have been made on defense since early in the season. We are stopping the run much better but a decent passing team can beat our secondary. I'd say our team speed is lacking this year. And special teams hasn't been good all season. We definitely have holes and can be beat. We've won the close games that could have easily went the other way. We're still a very good football team though and Nederland will have to earn it to win it. Should be a good football game.

Toward the second half of last year PN-G was getting the majority of yards rushing and receiving from Nguyen Adams and Chatagnier two of those guys are gone and I mentioned both IMO PNG is really missing Shea Adams like I said because he could do it all run, pass, and catch... but PNG still has Chatagnier Connor Bailey at QB and Tyson Henry and the offensive line as well who i haven't even mentioned yet PN-G is fine offensively that's my opinion

Well, since everyone has their own opinion, I think that comparing last years' team with this years' team, PNG or Ned either one, will get you in trouble around these forums, especially on the PNG forum.  Regardless, both teams are different from last season.  But the game will be the same.  All of the seniors will likely start, with any usual/regular non-Sr starters gradually subbing into the game.   By the second series the game will open up.  PNG will control the clock and the game, with Ned relying on big plays. I'm thinking it'll be more of a game like last year, with PNG pulling away in the 4th.  In any case it should be a good game.

I see PN-G controlling the clock but I see Ned trying the same thing

If both schools are able to create a running game, then Defensive Adjustments on the fly may be key to victory for this 2024 Edition of MCM.  I am ready for Friday.  This one should be a dandy of a game!  Pray for great practices for both teams.  Indians, or Bulldogs we are all God's Children and should pray for an injury free game.🏈

The biggest issue in this particular football game is the trenches. PNG is bigger and more experienced there. Nederland has been capable and well coached. This game is going to be an absolute WAR until it's not. That might come before halftime or with less than a minute in the 4th. It all depends on how well Nederland is able to stop the run. That's it IMHO. PNGs Defense should be able to get their stops. If PNG can run at will it will be over quickly. Good luck to both I can't wait to see it!!!

Nederland is playing harder under the new coach which is going to play a factor in this game. This is one of those games that you don't have to get the kids hyped up about. These kids have been looking forward to this game since the clock hit 0:00 at last years game. We make predictions all we want and look at common opponents and margins of victory in those games, however all bets go out the door for MCM. Rankings don't matter, strength of schedule doesn't matter, decibels at the pep rally don't matter. These kids come to play for this game every year. That is why it's the best high school football rivalry in the state of TEXAS!

Our defensive secondary is our Achilles heel.

Then the PNG pass rush & QB containment must execute well.

This game will come down to turnovers and defensive stops.

I'll take my Indians  for the win.🏈

Not the usual chatter on this "BIG" game.

It does seem toned down a bit. I think the parents and fans are getting impatient. The boys are practicing as usual. Coach Jos. said it well when he called the game more than just a rivalry, because of the familiarity.  Texas and A&M (or OK), Alabama vs Auburn, Army vs Navy, are rivalries.  With this one the boys are all familiar with one another or pretty much know each other. They've played select baseball or Babe Ruth together, or soccer, or whatever. Some are likely related. There are cross town girl friends, etc etc.  That's why the game is so unpredictable, it's like an organized sandlot game with coaches. Still, PNG is favored to win this one, and rightly so I think.  We'll see what happens, but I expect a game a little closer than last year's game.

It is Mid County madness, everything can be thrown out the window lol, I can see a great game for the record books this year. Ned is much improved under their new coach. I didn't think they would beat Lake Creek, but they pulled it off with a late big run. I'm thinking this game is over by 930 pm both teams running the ball eating up clock. Turnovers will be crucial! I see everyone comparing this year's team to last year's team, totally different. Our special teams scare the hell out of me lol, our secondary has no speed and i don't see the players flying to the ball. But what i do see is we can run the ball eat up clock and pass the ball when needed. What we are lacking is stopping the fake punts on 4th down and onside kicks. We are still resilient enough to make up for our mistakes, but against good teams we may not be so lucky. I am excited for Friday night to get here. I am hoping both teams come thru with no injuries. It is nice to see both teams undefeated in district, since the UIL decided to screw things up yet once again, not liking these two-hour drives for a district game. I think the changes on defense that the coaches made have improved our defense.   I am curious to see the how the play calling goes. Will there be a few trick plays we shall see lol. Still think The Indians come out on top! Scalpem !!!

Agreed, our defense will be our Achilles come playoff time with a good QB and receivers as well as a good running QB. No size or speed.

My son plays on the PNG freshman team. It is going to be a lot of fun watching these groups from both schools come up. Nederland's linebacker group looked like grown men on the field. PN-G missing a key defensive and offensive player and Gohlke playing on varsity hurt but it was going to be a close, hard fought game regardless.

Both teams looked huge out there. Nederland is going to have a massive varsity o-line next season. My impression watching both JVs is that both varsities will be better overall next year. There are kids on the jv I think could be contributing already on varsity, and that’s not true every year.

PNG is favored by 9 in the line I saw.

Hubert will be a problem for PNG.  They can contain him for most of the game, then 1 missed assignment or mental mistake and he’s gone for 70 yards.  I would like to know how many 50+ yard TD’s he has this year.  It’s a bunch and PNG doesn’t have anyone that can run with him on their D.  As long as Nederland doesn’t turn the ball over, they will have a chance.
