adminbaberuth Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 Since I don't see any high school basketball, who's the best player in the area with no regards to any classification. I read alot about J’Covan Brown the young man going to UT, is he the best? If so, who is next in line?
Gabe Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 Douglas Howard of Silsbee isnt too bad at all. I have seen him several times and was always impressed.
BLUEDOVE3 Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 I just started watching area high school games, but I always hear Brown from Memorial Port Arthur and DeCarlos Franks from Ozen. I've only seen Franks play, but you can get into his head and disrupt his game at times.
BMTSoulja1 Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 Brown is head and shoulders above the rest. Second, I would have to go with Thomas from EC, from what I see. I havn't seen Ozen play yet. You can ask me the question once the second half of district gets here.
BLUEDOVE3 Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 The thing I keep remembering when questions like this come up is the kid from Hardin-Jefferson last season. His name kept popping up as one of the better players in the area. But based on recruiting news I received, there wasn't a big interest in his basketball skills from the big D-1's. I guess this is one of the downfalls of too much publicity over shadowing your skills. Obviously Brown may be the real deal.
baller001 Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 you are talking about Ryan Donahoe there was two things that kept him from going to a bigger college he played all last year with a knee that probaly wasnt at 50 percent and he waited to long he had offers from some bigger schools but he held out waiting on the bigger schools and they left him at his junior college give him 2 years there and i believe he will get an offer from a bigger school

I've only seen Franks play, but you can get into his head and disrupt his game at times. You've got to remember DeCarlos is only a soph. this kid is the real deal and is very good.
BLUEDOVE3 Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 You've got to remember DeCarlos is only a soph. this kid is the real deal and is very good.Thats true, he is young and by the time he is a senior, he may be as good as JoCovan (sp?) Brown at Memorial.
BMTSoulja1 Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Thats true, he is young and by the time he is a senior, he may be as good as JoCovan (sp?) Brown at Memorial.I dont' think so. Good, but won't be able to hold a candle to J. Brown, IMO.
Guest nostradamus Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Donahoe was also the victim of playing at a 3A school. Believe it or not but the recruiters of big time schools look at the A's, especially if you are a normal sized kid (ex: Joseph Jones from Normangee received big time stuff because of his size despite his playing at a 1A).Had several area HISD coaches say that had Donahoe played at one of the 5A's in Houston he would have signed Big 12 or Big 10.
setxslam Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I hear Donahoe's having nagging trouble with his knee. I have faith that his talent will eventually take him to bigger and better things. That kid simply willed HJ to a state championship-- on one good leg.
hj_hawk_60 Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 this isn't in any particular order but i'd say some of the best from what i've seen...Brown - PAMFranks - OzenThomas - ECBurell - HJBernard - HJBray - Kountzejust a few..
UT#1 Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 J.Brown could be great too bad he has the attitude he does, D. Bray from kountze hasnnt impressed me at all....
Lazeek Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 Tremain Thomas is IMO the best that SE Texas has.....he is a beast!!!

ozensfinest Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 AGREE!!!i think decarlos frank is the best that setx has 2 offer nxt 2 jcovan da kid is amazing he wuz the leading scorer in a playoff game against huntsville lastyear as a freshman n he will only get better i say he'll b better den jcovan especially with a coach like boutee behind him
BMTSoulja1 Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 That's pushing the envelope. Decarlos is good, but won't be overall better then J'Coven before he leaves Ozen. At the rate he's going, he'll be close as heck though.
DP#1FAN Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Tremain Thomas is IMO the best that SE Texas has.....he is a beast!!!agree, he also doesn't act like a a____.
