Playoffs

Districts are starting to clear up.  Nederland will play Santa Fe in the first round of the playoffs.  And I think Port Neches will have Friendswood.   Who else is set up?

BH is 13-0 and Ned is 12-1, but Ned still has BH at home. They could both end up 13-1, correct?

That is correct.  Barbers Hill will go into Division 1 regardless and Nederland will go Division 2 with PNG.  PNG will face Friendswood I believe in the first round. BH will get Laporte I am pretty sure since Galveston Ball and Laporte will go into Div 1 out of that district.  Tuesdays game is only to see if Nederland can get a share of district.

Gonna be interesting how the brackets shape up especially in the smaller school ranks with the new way of splitting into division 1 and 2

The new playoff format waters down the post season to an amazing degree.  BH is unbelievable fortunate that Friendswood would be in D2, I doubt it would be a repeat of last year.

West Brook has Galveston Ball in the 1st round. First time for the Lady Bruins to make the playoffs since 2018

Who were the 4 that made the playoffs? BH, Ned, WB, and I guess PNG?

Correct. Ironic  NED and PNG as the 3rd and 4th place finishers in Div 2 get the tougher draw. UIL screwed the pooch on this whole deal.

Friendswood has a clear path to State in D2.  BH will be lucky to get past A&M Consol in the second round.  Will have to play their best match of the year to do it.

So this whole new Div 1 and Div 2 system all screwed up… several people were complaining UIL rushed this when this first came and said they should have waited.

I’d rather they get rid of divisions in all sports, including football. We don’t need so many state champions. It’s all about the UIL money I suppose.

They didn't need divisions in 5A and below. They already moved a ton of 5A teams up to 6A this year so it was not needed at all. You have basically created the YMCA Division in all sports by watering it down this much.

As someone else said, Friendswood might not even break a sweat going all the way to State this year where in years past they never advanced past round 3. Will it even be satisfying knowing you are playing at a lower level and beneath your talent while not even receiving a challenge?  Eh

 

UIL also got rid of the regional tournaments so you have to make the state finals to even get a true state like experience.

The UIL cannot resist their annual tinkering. They never leave well enough alone. I guess that’s done to show they are “doing something” every year. To me, it just looks like they never get it right. If they did, no need to change something every year. Leave it alone for once. The constant shuffling is tiresome.

Barbers Hill loses in convincing fashion to A&M Consolidated 1-3.  Looks like they had a comeback in set 1 and then got handled in sets 2, 3, and 4.

District 19-5A is now off to basketball season as the teams went a combined 1-4.

AMC was the favorite. This could have been a 3-0 sweep with 10 point wins but BH showed up and fought hard. I would not say AMC won "convincingly". This is meaningless semantics though. Time to look ahead. BH will defintely be back stronger next year.

AMC was the favorite based on what?  Last year AMC did not even make the playoffs and BH was in the regional finals? Both undefeated district champs.  I would say that was a definite toss up and if I am not mistaken AMC was running a freshman setter.  Maybe based on strength of schedule you could say AMC had a similar record while playing much tougher opponents throughout the season. BHs best win may have been 2A Iola?

In my opinion in VB losses by 6 and 7 points in a set is convincing much less 3 sets in a row.

SSDY - Same “Stuff” Different Year(s). Two teams with equivalent talent but big differences in coaching. Seems that a pattern is building at BH VB.

Due to stuff I read on social media. It may or may not have been true. 

I discount whatever happened "last year" for any team. Different players, different talent year to year.

It wasn't too hard to see when 1) having an understanding of VB more than Wins/Losses and 2) watching the actual matches.  BH's record at the end of this year was really misleading, they started off not great against mostly decent teams (a couple good teams too), but they also struggled against teams they shouldn't have.  That got masked once they hit district. 

Most fans don't know too much about VB unless they have/had a sister, daughter, or niece play, so they get tricked by that inflated win/loss record.  Most also don't get that the majority of skill comes from club ball and BH's girls are not getting any additional refinement from the schools program.  That is evident in the playoffs and against comparable teams.  BH players can only out talent other teams so much, eventually their coaching needs to catch up to help those girls out.

This is the truth! Club makes the difference. Look at the successful teams and you'll see mostly club players. Club is where they get skill development and they take those skills to their HS teams. Then we see the HS coaches take the credit for their talent when in reality the player probably feels like HS season didn't do them any good.

I think you are right on all accounts. In addition to fans, the media has shown to be easily tricked as well.
