HC retired not fired. Pretty sure that job was his as long as he was willing to continue to work there. No coach is going to come in and win there at 6A. Best Cleveland can do is hire a coach that will come in and run a program that focuses on building up the players as good young men. Problem is they will only attract ambitious young coaches trying to climb the professional ladder (not gonna work at Cleveland) or older coach that is looking to boost their retirement ( might do a decent job if they care).

Yeah, this job is a career killer. Maybe it's a good chance for some out of state coach who just wants to get a shot at coaching in Texas. I'm not sure, but much like Splendora, I'd assume any coach who can actually carry water would consider this job radioactive.

not sure why any young coach would go there and torpedo their chances to get hired somewhere else.

There is nothing remotely similar between the situations in Splendora and Cleveland.

Young Coaches do it for numerous reasons.

1. Going from making 65K to 100K

2. Most desirable jobs want prior experience and often won't even consider you without it. Thats why the same usual names keep getting hired even after failing elsewhere.

3. They are young, energetic, and confident in their ability to right the ship (most likely overconfident)

4. Ambitious and Impatient

Yes, definitely torpedoed Kedrick Harrison

you know as well as I do that he was hired based on his college coaching experience, and Cleveland had nothing to do with it.  He also wasn't the head coach, and was clearly just there to fill a spot until he could get hired as an AD somewhere. and it's not exactly like he left Cleveland to go to a desirable job anyway. your average young coach with no head coach or college experience that goes 2-28 or so over three years in Cleveland may never get another HC opportunity again.

Understood, so would it be accurate to say: “going to Cleveland did not torpedo his chances to be hired elsewhere”?

due to his unique situation. your average young high school coach with no HC experience isn't going to go to Cleveland and win 2 games in 3 years and parlay that into a successful head coaching career in Texas.  They'd be better served to get on as an assistant at a good program and try to get hired as a head coach after gaining many years of assistant experience.  Any young coach who takes the Cleveland head coaching job is taking on a role that's high risk/low reward.  As many others have said, this role is perfect for someone willing to get beat up on for a few years to bolster their retirement payout.

So, coaching at Cleveland does not necessarily “torpedo someone’s chances of being hired elsewhere”?

I have not met many coaches that think poorly of Cleveland coaches. Most have tremendous respect for them and do not hold the circumstances at Cleveland against them and their coaching abilities

I'd say they're pretty similar. Terrible football school that recently moved up in classification due to expanding enrollment and has no chance to compete anytime soon. Can you tell me what is not similar about them?

Idk about similar but I will say this looking from afar... Splendora did score quite a bit on some of the teams in their district (surprised me to say the least) but Cleveland it was a barn burner every game that they played.

eh, to an extent. I think other coaches understand, and without a doubt respect what they're doing, but once you take that job and do absolutely nothing with it (because it's near impossible) why would anyone take a chance on your for another head coaching job? just because other coaches understand doesn't mean the school board will when they look at your job application and that 1-29 record.

The demographics are polar opposite and the corresponding challenges that go with them. Also Splendora did not add 800 students in 2 years.

Splendora had experienced organic growth whereas Cleveland experienced artificial and accelerated growth. Splendora has a supportive tax base whereas Cleveland has an adversarial tax base at war with the offending developer of the artificial growth.

Growth in Splendora is similar to New Caney. The situation in Cleveland is unprecedented in American history.
