BHFAN Posted November 16 Report Posted November 16 BH will be playing the La Porte Bulldogs., they will meet 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at the Galena Park ISD Stadium. Laporte always seems to slip by the Hill, will this be the year BH finally beats the Bulldogs? BH is still limping along with practically a Soph offense led by a veteran O-line and a scrapy defense. Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted November 16 Report Posted November 16 Ok @OlDawg I'm picking yall again...... 🤷🏾♂️ But if BH gets a double digit lead they will not choke again this time around like last season in district play. OlDawg 1 Quote

Getting ready to go mow. Hopefully, for one of the last few times for awhile. Will have more to say later. Will say, if LP doesn’t clean up their play a lot, it won’t matter how much talent they have on the field. BH will make them pay. The Eagles know what to expect, and will be as prepared as any team this year to face the Dawgs. As for Morton, LP did minimize Anderson’s Small (18). So, they have the ability to control a very talented player. Quote
easttexiasbias Posted November 16 Report Posted November 16 Give me La Porte!! After watching that freshman RB last night for La Porte #21 he is the real deal!! Along with the freshman receiver #10 if they can get the ball to him and play a clean game La Porte might make a run. OlDawg 1 Quote

I understand he’s (Simon #21) already being heavily recruited by Texas Tech & a few others. He’s special—if he keeps his head on straight like Bernard. Quote
Separation Scientist Posted November 17 Report Posted November 17 When I comment on a game like this, I try to do it analytically, as opposed to speaking as a homer. I have not followed LaPorte much at all this year until recently. It seems LP is a well oiled machine humming along at full strength with the capability to neutralize almost anyone. LP employs a brutal ground and pound attack that beats down their opponents with D-1 athletes running the ball. The LP defense is very stingy, and LP has a perfect 7-0 district record. BH, OTOH, is a team that achieved a third seed via a point differential tiebreaker, and playoffs were not assured until the final district game. BH lost its lone D-1 athlete RB1 on the opening drive of the very first game. Multiple injuries has BH playing with a bunch of Sophs stepping in the skill positions (I still don't know all their names) albeit with a decently good O-line. BH appears to be overmatched here, but has to go out and play the game like they have nothing to lose Friday night. Thats all they can do. If BH's effort is maxxed out, thats all anyone can ask. LP is the clear favorite regardless. Glad to be playing at GPISD! Easy travel for all. Quote
Clueless Posted November 17 Report Posted November 17 LP has had BH number. Coaching will keep it close, but I see LP pulling away in second half. I’m starting to think LP might be Region 3 favorite since they’re 100% healthy with that running game. easttexiasbias 1 Quote
BHFAN Posted November 17 Author Report Posted November 17 This game will be tight. The last 2 seasons LaPorte has beat BH by 7 with BH blowing a 2 TD lead last year. Good news is that LaPorte shouldn't be a surprise to BH, but that Bulldog offense is tough to contain. The BH defense will have to come out and play lights out to allow the BH O to get and maintain a lead. What is going to kill BH is the play action passes as the secondary always seems to be out of place when a QB pulls the ball back and pass. Last week Sterling only threw like 3 passes and all 3 either got points or put them in position to score. I'm not too concerned with the Offense even if most of the skill spots are backups or Soph whatever the case they can score! BH QB just needs to keep improving on his accuracy and spreading the ball around to keep defenses guessing. Quote

OlDawg Posted November 18 Report Posted November 18 Calpreps has LP (61%) by 7. Massey has BH (61%) by 5. One of them will be wrong. At this point, all teams left are solid teams. LP and BH know each other from being district mates the past 2 years. But, this is a different LP team. I haven’t seen an LP team with this much offensive firepower since the late 70’s. Even with teams stacking nine—like Austin Anderson last week and Angleton (who has a very solid D)—LP is still rushing for over 500 & 400 yards respectively. They’re averaging right at 10 ypc. So—as I told some Anderson folks who thought they just had to ‘slow’ LP down to win—this isn’t a typical ‘3 yards & cloud of dust’ LP team. Meanwhile, the D has been very good at containing the opponent’s big weapons. Again, they held a high flying Anderson squad to their 2nd lowest point total of the season. That includes Anderson’s losses to AMC, CS, and Weiss. Typically, I’d say this game will be close. This time, I have to say, unless LP shoots themselves in the foot, I don’t see this one being as close as the last two between these teams. That being said, LP had 3 TD’s called back, 1 blocked FG, and 2 TO’s in the first half last week. One of the TO’s was a touchback from the 1. They still scored 42 with an explosion in the 4th quarter. But, they were also sloppy against Angleton after getting a big lead, and almost lost that game as well. They had to score a late TD to break the tie. So, I’m a little concerned about their mistakes. Soon, a team will make them pay. No matter their talent. Hopefully, the game will be streamed. Quote
OlDawg Posted November 18 Report Posted November 18 The freshman RB that was called up early is as others have described. If he chooses a solid path, he could easily be LP’s first 5 star. That’s saying something with the RB’s that have come through La Porte. There have been Olympic gold medalists, NFL players, and others. But, no 5 stars I’m aware of… Let’s hope he listens to solid role models, and realizes the opportunity he’s been given to use the talent he’s been gifted. On top of that, Barnes, Sandolph, and Bright are still there. Not sure how coach keeps them all happy spreading the ball around. easttexiasbias 1 Quote

If there were five-star ratings in the eighties, he was a five-star. If the freshman RB at LaPorte is the next Curvin Richards, watch out...LaPorte will win a lot of games. This year's team has an OL that mauls people. The stable of backs pick a lane and run north/south. As long as the OL does its thing, LaPorte will be a tough out. They will hold on to the football, squeeze the number of possessions, and beat you up. Quote

But, I don’t remember his ‘rating.’ If he hadn’t gotten hurt, and also take care of his sister (I believe she had cancer), he would have broken Tony Dorsett’s records. As it was, I think he is second behind Dorsett at Pitt. The Freshman looks like Curvin when he was a Senior. But, he also carries people along for the ride like Kendrick Perkins. Kind of a blend. The point was simply to recognize a young man with extraordinary talent. I do the same for players on other teams as well when they catch my eye. That being said, Ball and LP aren’t comparable in the least. I’d say they’re about as opposite as opposite can be, and LP players aren’t showboats. Even the very talented ones. They tend to be very businesslike. I believe Coach Berneathy did graduate from Ball though. expirate20 1 Quote
Lamar1996 Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 Those two running backs at LP are legit. BH will have their hands full. Quote
Cougtalk Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 This is the best La Porte team that Bh will have faced and they won the district for a reason, think this is a La Porte win. Quote
BHFAN Posted November 21 Author Report Posted November 21 Laporte is a good team don’t get me wrong, but I’m not buying that they are elite or a region contender. We get the same banter each year and they always fall short. BH has a hill to climb here, but it’s not a mountain. As most games this will be won in the trenches and BH can compete there. BH offense is averaging over 50 points a game, so not concerned there. The BH defense especially against a O like LaPorte is my only concern. BH will have to get several stops to win this game. Quote

Never heard La Porte being mentioned as elite, or a region contender on this forum until this particular thread. In fact, La Porte isn’t mentioned much at all, I believe I’m the only active LP poster and I haven’t said they were either yet. La Porte does have a very talented squad this year. But, they’ve been mistake prone—especially recently. A good team is going to make them pay if they continue. This point of the year, TO’s, penalties, missed tackles, & silly mistakes are magnified and are usually the difference since the talent level is more equal. Quote
