Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted November 19 Report Posted November 19 @PlayActionPass I wonder how many applicants they'll get...... PlayActionPass 1 Quote
Vini vidi Posted November 19 Report Posted November 19 On a positive note they seem pretty patient with coaches. as with everything are they willing to pay? how are the numbers sub varsity wise/ talent? What offensive/ defensive systems are a fit? facilities? Kids/ work ethic/ buy in? as always someone will be real happy when they get that job Quote
Box1 Posted November 19 Report Posted November 19 they're building new facilities correct? could be enough to garner some more attention than usual cause the talent pool is scarce I'm afraid. Quote

Athletes in Livingston are already NOT playing because they never throw the damn ball. Need someone that can relate to the kids, bring some enthusiasm, knows the community and has an understanding of what the LIV is all about. Also, they need someone with a MODERN offense and philosophy. Quote

Well aware of the history of Livingston. Livingston had a D1 athlete at QB/S and a future NFL running back as well as a couple other small school college players on those teams. And, the best year that never was in Livingston was a year they were VERY multiple, incorporating a number of SPREAD concepts. That team was geared up for a DEEP run until the RB got injured and the TEAM didn't adjust well. Quote
Vini vidi Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 Everyone says this or that offensive system. It’s all philosophy of the head coach that is hired. The bigger thing is players buying into that system. PlayActionPass, Guitar Man and fatthead 3 Quote

Has to be able to establish a culture first and get the kids necessary to be successful out and playing. Quote

If you were, then you know the success was more about the PLAYERS and the MENTALITY than it was about the offensive system. But, you keep doing you. Quote

I have all the respect in the world for the coach you are referring to. And, the "Slot T" is what it is. I'm not going to argue the positives and the negatives of the Slot. Edit: That argument would go on forever, and I'm not changing the mind of a Slot lover....... Quote
Kegger Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 HF would fall into the category of need to just run slot t and yet they are opening things up from what I heard and are having a banner year. I think as long as the coach can get buy in from the players then it doesn’t matter but athletes get a ton more excited when you throw the ball around. PlayActionPass 1 Quote

HF is benefitting from a lot of transfers moving in. WhoDat 1 Quote
Guitar Man Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 Here is the thing about Livingston. They look the part. They have big and athletic kids. The right coach could really turn this program into a winning machine if they can establish a new identity and culture. It was obvious all season the guy who resigned had one foot out the door. Safe to say I seen screenshots from the local community pages people asking for slot t coach to be hired/ get the liberty hill OC. those years you are referring to were some very fine athletes for Livingston. Can’t remember the name of one that went to A&M… Quote

Sounds like they need to look for a guy who has on his resume, experience in turning around struggling programs. Just from the outside looking in, there is a process that takes some time and effort in order to repair, I’m sure, what are multiple issues. First, I would think would be instilling a great work ethic in both kids and coaches. Kids should expect on their first day of middle school to get the hound worked out of them every day in their athletic periods, and the same should be happening during the high school athletic periods as well. Find a guy that understands fiery pep rally speeches and chest bumping kids as they come off the field has never won a game. Hard work, attention to detail, and holding kids and coaches accountable, and implementing a year round program for growth, all that non glamorous stuff, will change programs. Pretty sure some of those kind of guys are still out there. Hoping for the best for the kids and community of Livingston PlayActionPass 1 Quote

Now, there is nothing wrong with high fiving or low fiving kids coming off the field, having enthusiasm and throwing the occasional forward pass..... As long as you do all the things you mentioned. Holding kids and coaches accountable and working hard are definitely prerequisites to success. However, it is allowed to have fun while you are doing it. Quote

There are ways to have a good time while working everybody’s butts off. The real fun is the reward of a good win on a Friday night. Saturday morning film sessions with kids after a win is a great time to have some fun as well. Sometimes, with struggling programs, you have to guard against letting some of the peripheral stuff around the game becoming the focus, instead of the performance of kids and coaches. Quote

Hoping for the best for the kids and community of Livingston The question now is does a coach with that kind of resume take a job in Livingston? Is Livingston a "Good Job"? A coach with a proven record of turning programs around and running them the right way will most likely be a top candidate for his pick of jobs. The other problem is guys like that probably have a few coaches that come with them. Does Livingston (legit asking) pay assistants well enough to have them move there? In today's housing (Interests rates) market it isn't as easy as it used to be to pick up and move. When I was high school our HC was fired and a new one was hired. There was like 8 new coaches that came. Does that happen anymore? In metro areas probably but in rural places probably not. Im sure they will have their fair share of candidates though. HC job is a HC job. Quote
