While the most disrespected district in 5AD1 is playing the rematch of their district championship game anyone got any info on this one yet?

If you’re asking about more than just the schedule of the rematch—which as Aggie said is up top—I’ll add some more tidbits later on. Purple Reign can add more details about Angleton that he’s more familiar with than me. Really some interesting connections & past histories for both of these clubs.

As a tidbit right now—as it relates to a form of your ‘disrespect’ comment—District 3 is generally accepted as the toughest 5A-1 district in the state. They have a Regional Final/State Quarterfinal rematch between their top 2 teams (Denton Ryan & Aledo).

The only other 5A-D1 district with a Regional Final/State Quarterfinal between the top 2 teams in the district?

11-5A-1. La Porte and Angleton.

Both 3-5A & 11-5A have eliminated competition from 2 other districts. La Porte and Angleton eliminated all four PO teams from 12-5A-D1 whom a lot of experts thought was the next toughest district in 5A-D1 behind 3-5A.

The only other ‘Big School’ district that can top this? 23-6A, where all 4 PO teams will replay each other again, and is generally considered to be the toughest district in the state.

Most Disrespected District????? Angleton and LP are obviously great! rest of the district was sub 500.

Less to do with these two more to do with the trash talk by fans of that Bryan district and of our friendly neighborhood district that both just got knocked out the playoffs by these two.

Back to the Game at hand. You think the Angleton kids are excited about getting another chance to tackle the LP Backs?

I’m sure they’re excited.

Angleton’s 425 is great against most teams today. Not the best against LP. I see Angleton having to run blitz almost all game long to slow down LP. If they do, and they miss, uh-oh. I see neither team changing what they do at the core. But, I see a few new wrinkles from both. LP will probably use more quick outs, tosses, reverses to loosen up the middle. I see them lining up Barnes & Sandolph as receivers with Simon as a deep back where he can have time to find a hole. For Angleton, I see them going for almost every 4th down, and attempting more long balls. High risk. High reward.

Of course, what do I know?

In the end, whichever team runs the ball the best with the fewest mistakes wins.

yall were 5-6 and wouldnt have made the playoffs in BH district or Dayton district. There is a clear separation between LP, Angleton and the rest of yall.

Whatever helps you sleep at night bub.

Evidence of that clear separation CLEAR SEPERATION!

I'm sure they would like to redeem themselves, but in a playoff game like this, the strongest motivating factor for both teams is making the semi-finals. LP really hurt Angleton in the 1st game with kickoff and punt returns and they may have to do something different this time There was a 70 yard kickoff for a touchdown and later Angleton was on LP's 35 yard line and did a quick kick on 4th down I think it was which LP returned to about Angleton's 25. They may have to use onside kicks since those are rarely returned. It would help if Angleton's kicker could put it through the endzone for a touchback but that's not usually his range. They also missed a field goal over 40 yards which I think was a little out of his range. And they may be better off going for it on 4th down rather than punting or punting out of bounds. It's a good thing this will be an indoor game at NRG Saturday because there is rain in the forecast.

Didn't Simon have a field day with Angleton?

351 yards & 4 TD’s. Seriously doubt they’ll allow that again. Not sure they were prepared for him. Of course, they can do like Consol tried & key on him. Then, he only got 187. But, Barnes got about 150 & 4 TD’s.

Reading my Texas Football mag page 250, neither team listed in the Top 4.  Crosby picked 1st, LaPorte picked 5th, Angleton not even listed in the District.  Talk about flying under the radar.

Yes that was a little bit of egg in the face for DCTF. They completely omitted Angleton from the mag. They caught some grief over it.

Really looks bad now.

I remember Matt saying it was all screwed up. BG brought it up and mentioned they had LP ranked 15 in state, but 5th in district in the print edition. The print edition looked like they listed district teams in alphabetical order, omitted Angleton, and never proofed.

I get the feeling there’s a big push for viewership/digital offerings/game projections, and some of the investigative detail that used to make them special is slipping through the cracks.

Not a slam. Maybe just trying to do too much too quick.

LP is averaging 44 PPG and 21 PAPG (including the 28 to BH when backups came in and it was 45-0 in the 3rd) in the PO’s.

LP’s averages are actually better in the PO’s than in the regular season & predistrict.

Angleton is averaging 35 PPG and 30 PAPG in PO’s with all games coming down to the final whistle.

The last time LP was in the State Quarterfinals, the game was at NRG, they had just beaten Katy for—arguably—the biggest win in program history, and played district mate PAM. They had never lost to PAM, and had just beaten them for the 23-6A District Title the last game of district play.

They choked, and PAM made them look very bad.

PAM was routed the next week by Steele.

I still think the emotions between these three games were the downfall of PAM & LP. But, will never be able to prove it.

On the flip-side, Angleton has never won a PO game that was played during the day.

I knew there was an explanation for why Crosby was picked 1st.

Definitely...the swapping of teams threw something off in the page editing process because I was the one who wrote the preview....Tepper felt horrible about it and did a seperate story on Angleton...

The changes after realignment threw something else on that page off because we had La Porte 15th in the state pre-season but like 6th in district (Coach Berneathy you are welcome for the bulletin board material lol)

It was a bad combo of a district that got changed up after the fact and a first time page editor...I was also out of town on business the week we went to press so I couldn't do a last minute once over like I typically do...just a perfect storm of messed up
