  • AggiesAreWe changed the title to Silsbee 62 Beaumont West Brook 83/FINAL

Silsbee isn't going to beat any good team this year till they learn to play two good halves of basketball.

I get you don't just lose a Jared Harris, Miller, Bottley, etc and keep things rolling like nothing's changed. They need to get it figured out before district starts though.

I think they'll be fine.  After all, they were playing the 4th ranked 5A team and they're just now getting the football players back.  I think they'll still win the district.  They won't go undefeated and there won't be many blowouts.  It will certainly be more dramatic but the end result will be the same.

And that's some 5A district.  No. 4, No. 6, No. 7 and No. 17.  Murderers row.

Silsbee is down this year compared to last season. They lost a lot of key players from last year's squad.

It's still not an excuse to be practically tied at the half of this game and get blown out. Not to mention be up by 9 on BU at the half and lose by double digits. They need to play better.

We've got two young freshmen that'll need some time to break in. One will more likely be a future investment for next season, while the other will already see decent playing time this year.

He officially announced the decision on Wednesday morning after speaking with players and coaches earlier in the week. The retirement will become official on Dec. 31. Quick leaves a mark on the program that includes a state title as a defensive coordinator in 2001. This past season, he led Lufkin back to the playoffs with another district championship that included a 10-game winning streak and a 10-2 record. “This is my 40th year total, and everybody has said you’ll know when it’s time,” Quick said Wednesday morning. “I can’t explain it or tell you one specific reason. When it’s time, you know. You move on and it’s what you feel is best for you and the kids. Number one is the kids. It always has been.” Quick had a coaching career that started in 1987 as an assistant coach under John Outlaw at Arkadelphia where the school won the state championship. He moved on to Sherman for seven years before taking the defensive coordinator job in Lufkin in 1995. “You spend 30 years of your life in a place and it becomes your home,” Quick said. “I’ve here longer than I’ve lived where I’m from. Lufkin is my home. It’s where my kids are raised. You can’t look at it any different. It’s home. Somebody asks where I’m from. I tell them I’m from Lufkin.” The school will start a coaching search in the upcoming weeks. “I won’t be here in the spring,” Quick said. “You’ve got to give them an opportunity to get people in here. I can’t be here all spring and expect them to find someone to have the team ready after that.”
    • I never miss a game if I can help it.  I missed one this year because we went to see the Longhorns beat the Gators.  That's the only game I've missed in person in 5 years, maybe more.
    • Sean Simon (La Porte Fr. RB #21) now has 2 offers. Texas Tech offered first. Now, Tennessee has offered. Wife—an Aggie—keeps saying ATM better get on the ball. 😂
