Kids are fickle & will flock to these programs because they want to win, get exposure at the highest level & get recruited at the highest level. There’s only a hand full of programs that are doing this consistently so it’s no secret why they have the most talent…this ain’t rocket science. NS had major flaws on both sides of the ball this year…if they were out recruiting you think they wouldn’t have brought in players to fill those voids? Quote

I believe NS had a major microscope on their program due to recruiting violations that were caught. Seriously doubt if they’d be doing much right away. They’re the Astros of TXHSFB. An example. Quote
SmashMouth Posted Tuesday at 05:57 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 05:57 PM I'm of the weak opinion, (weak, because I only have opinions of coaches to back it up & not facts) that recruiting (a violation) is much less prevalent than athletes transferring on their own to a better suited school for athletic purposes (also a violation). None of it is acceptable to me, but I understand why people do it. WOSdrummer99 1 Quote

oldschool2 Posted Tuesday at 07:00 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 07:00 PM 3 hours ago, AggiesAreWe said: Under UIL policy, in order to participate in UIL activities, one has to establish residency within the school district one is attending or one will be ineligible for a calendar year. Also, the DEC can rule ineligible if moved for athletic purposes. This is regardless of open or closed enrollment schools. Some are talking about moving for better opportunities. It's hard to validate that move when one moves from a school that has an A rating from TEA to a school with a D or F rating. Unless the parents moved for work or it was a negative family situation, those kind of moves are obviously for athletic purposes and the student should be rules ineligible. These new policies and regulations that UIL has just come out with will crack down on some of this mass transfer situation. (i.e. Duncanville girls basketball). It won't stop it completely, but having 10-15 transfers per year will cause major red flags to the UIL and they will step in DEC meetings. Pretty sure starting next year the "brother in law" DEC meetings will cease because a UIL official will be in those meetings per the new regs. Here's where the issue is going to be. Actually.. just one of the issues. What if the parents buy a house in that district because it was more affordable? Or better living conditions? You already mentioned work. What if they didn't get along with a teacher / school employee / other students ? I'm playing devil's advocate here and I'm telling you that if a family uproots and moves, UIL better be careful determining why or why not that happened. "I know your dad took a job in Northshore, and y'all sold your house, and hired a moving company, and bought a house in Northshore, but your son's previous school has a way better academic rating so you guys obviously did all that for athletic purposes." I'm just saying... slippery slope. Quote

I really think that relocation is the equalizer. Physically moving.. changing your family's permanent address. Change of employment. How is the state going to tell a student/family that the only reason they did that was for athletic benefit. Even if it was.. if it's verbally said and signed that it wasn't, then that's it. A parent can simply say that they couldn't afford to live in their previous location. Which may be true. Using a secondary address... "living" with a relative... sure. Red flags. But with the risk of starting to sound like CB. This is not always the case. For those using it as an excuse. Please stop. You are only handicaping yourself and others with the belief that this will always be the ways it is. I see it first hand here in my hometown. Kids not getting scholarships anymore. And unconfirmed rumors of what they are now doing at school breaks my heart. Or even others that had the chance to get out but couldn't put away their childish ways at the next level. Next thing you know they're back in the Fruit robbing a store at gunpoint. Yep it's bad and getting worse round here. The kids need us to step up. Need those role models back in front of them on a daily basis. Not friends. Sorry to veer off topic Let's be honest... kids who are transferring around in high school TYPICALLY aren't going to college to get a degree. They're heading there for an NIL deal and then a mega deal after they play out their rookie deal in the pros. Education is the LAST thing on their mind. But statistically speaking, they'll likely never finish a degree plan or DEFINITELY never make the pros. So why are people selling them a lie? At that point you have to ask "what's the point of going to college if you're going to be unsuccessful academically, then never make the pros?" You're just setting kids up for failure in life just so that your favorite high school team can get a few more wins. That's how kids end up back in their hometowns in trouble with the law. That's my problem with society in general. One community says "have fun... when it's over you can join the military, hop on that Hazelwood and get moving in life. Or hold down a part time job, take out some loans, further your education and get a semi-white collar job. Heck, go learn a trade and make decent money... you can have a good life-it's all up to you." So kids do. Another community says "the only way you're gonna make it out of here is by balling out or dropping a fire mix-tape." Which doesn't happen, except when the stars completely align. When a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of kids actually do manage to earn a living as an athlete, why do we sell that pipe dream to everybody? I doubt that a single kid from PNG over the last two years ever plays a snap of pro ball. I'd bet that MAYBE two kids from SOC in the same era will ever play a snap of pro ball. So was it worth it?
