For most, the season has come to an end. How did your team fare in your opinion? Did they meet, exceed, or fall short of expectations?

Please provide opinions without slamming coaching staffs or administrations.

Since I follow my Alma mater La Porte, my take is they actually exceeded my expectations. I had them pegged as a 2nd Round PO winner & possibly 3rd Round. I didn’t really expect a State Quarterfinal participant. They returned a lot. So, I did have reasonably high expectations for a 3rd year staff.

When they won the Regional Semi vs Consolidated, I started to feel really good about their chances of actually making it to Jerryworld. But, when Angleton won (who I supported as a district mate), I had a pit form in my stomach and Deja Vu knowing it would be a very tall task to beat them twice in a month.

Still, they had a great season & return a decent amount for next year. The program is growing again.

Next year way too early look ahead:

I see them being a PO team again. Maybe another district championship with all the home games they’ll have. But, the OL will need almost a total rebuild. They do return QB, 2 RB’s, TE, WR, & an OL (with another that had significant playing time due to injuries). Defensively, I think they return 5 who had good playing time.

I don’t see another Quarterfinal run. But, depends on how they come together. The senior leadership they’re losing will be tough to replace.

What do you think about your team?

Silsbee definitely exceeded my expectations. After losing a great senior class (26 to be exact) Tigers still managed the 3rd round of the playoffs, going 9-4 on the season. I think this was one of HC Randy Smith's best coaching years.

Some of these senior starters have made at least the 3rd round all three of their varsity years.

Kudos to this coaching staff and team for a job well done.

Nederland exceed my expectations. New Coaches and offense and defense scheme kids bought in. Had a chance to win district came just short. Won against PNG and everyone wrote them off saying they didn’t stand a chance… brought a new excitement to the town and school. Kids are buying in… safe to say the future is bright and Coach Rich and company are doing a heck of a job on and off the field in the community. Excited to see what the next few seasons hold

  • Newton, no discipline. Failed to develop a passing game (one dimension). Failed to develop a xtra point kicker. Defensive backs not well coached. To many penalties, fumbles, not smart football. Hard to keep assistant coaches.
  • No excuse for the way newton played Dangerfield.

Bellville… after playing for a state championship the season before losing in the second round was definitely disappointing… Lost probably more to injuries this year then they had in the 9 years I’ve lived here, but still had no business losing out the way they did in the second round(no offense to a amazingly well coached Silsbee team) This team showed flashes of promise throughout the season at certain times but the leadership and drive to win was just rarely there… now you graduate the big names DT DJ Sanders (Texas A&M), RB DD Murray (Arkansas State), and Edge Dante Keys (Texas State). But return mostly everyone else… Good news is a lot of younger kids got plenty of playing time this season. Come back next season and compete for a deep playoff run

I was very pleased to see PNG win district; I knew it would be tough.  The first two playoff games were a breeze, and the team played lights out for the Texarkana game, but were completely out of gas for the SOC game.  Still, the team had a monkey on it's back until the loss to Nederland, and they went further than I thought they would.

Next football season?  Who knows.  There are a few returners that had lots of playing time; but all else remains to be seen, including the coaching.

Pretty much covers my opinion as well.

Hamshire-Fannett did what they were supposed to until they didn't. They won an outright district championship for the first time since 94 I think, and convincingly thumped WOS, Silsbee, and Jasper to do it. Unfortunately, they lost a game they should've won in the 2nd round due to many factors coming together at exactly the wrong time. So that said, winning the district title was expected, but so was making it to the regional final out of this region and their side of the bracket. Had they gotten there, I'd argue they were close to even money against WLV, who's now in the state final. This was our chance, though. It's been close to 50 years since HF had this much talent on one team, and they got a favorable road to boot and weren't able to capitalize.  There's a lot of talent coming up, but it's going to be tough replacing basically all of their best defensive players for a second straight year, along with the district MVP, one of the best qbs in the state, and a D1 offensive lineman.

Several schools did about how one would expect.  Silsbee's run was surprising after finding out how many was lost from the year before.  I was probably the most surprised by Hardin.  I would've lost money on just about everything related to their season.  One win away from T2.  Playoffs in general.  Performance vs. Westwood.  All completely unexpected.

Similar sentiment.. I was surprised that Anahuac didn't even make the playoffs.  In a district that weak.. one would figure that Anahuac would've had the guns to at least get in.

Totally agree with Hardin and Anahuac. Well said !!!!

The season for North Shore was a total failure. I know that sounds harsh but we've come to have a state title or bust mentality.

The defense played their tails off and kept us in a couple of games we probably should have lost. The offense just never found it's identity. We saw glimpses of what it could be, but it couldn't find consistency

A lot are contemplating our demise but then they've been doing that for 20 plus years now. We may indeed fall back a bit, but don't look for us to fall off the face of the earth.

Just a light overview.

Once again, PAM lost to a team that won the region(slight positive)

Also, PAM underacheive with the numbers returning on both sides of the ball but not for the reasons that many think

However, with 9/6 retuning next year, Morgan will be ran out of town if the results are the same....
