What sticks out to me is the way the BH admin seems to be going about the hiring process. It smacks of (1) extreme overconfidence, (2) incompetence, or both. I may be wrong, but don’t schools usually proceed with some kind of system? That is, they announce the opening, put together a hiring committee, hire a consultant (if they want a consultant), interview the candidates, narrow down to a few finalists, and make a decision. BH doesn’t seem to be doing that. It all seems pretty haphazard.

This is the problem, Poole at BH has a massive ego and typically gets what he wants when he wants it. Kids don't want to cut their hair, well that is not an issue because he can expel them with impunity because he has the absolute 100% support of the community, especially the old guard "we can, we will we're Barbers Hill" folks. Even with the media crawling all over the district on the issue, he continues to operate the way he always has because of that support. I actually like that aspect of this community. Poole very rarely misses when he swings, so that breeds the confidence to make controversial moves whenever they may arise. It may even play into the willingness to force out a damn good football coach simply because his son isn't playing as much as Poole would like. He's done this same thing at least 3 times before and each time it has worked out beautifully because the candidate he brought in after the previous was disposed of was considered a big enough fish make the community forget about the last guy. This actually may be the first time he has run up against a chance that it won't end up that way. Trust and believe, if he were to land a coach with the last name 'Dodge' this offseason, none of us would ever talk about this situation again. The only conversation would be that BH somehow hired Todd/Reily Dodge, and they were on a Rocketship to the moon. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out because if it ends with a relatively unknown coach who doesn't produce the football success those in town expect, it could go sideways for Poole. I guess we will all be sitting around with our popcorn to see if he can pull another rabbit out of his hat.

I don’t have any insight into why Abseck left. But my two cents: Based on watching my family members deal with the BH administration (I’ve got nieces and nephews in BH school district), I wouldn’t want to be employed there. It’s all petty politics and people letting power go to their heads. I’m getting this secondhand, but the “I can’t believe we have to deal with this” kind of stories I’ve heard add up to a giant red flag.

I've heard enough from teachers that work there that I haven't even considered applying over there, despite the approximately 30% raise it would mean for me.

It is a great school district, with an awesome community.   One of the best districts to work in and have your kids attend (speaking from experience)

They do have a good all around athletic program (and have had for decades) - have not had a dominant football program, but very competitive kids.  Hopefully, he will hire a good coach and let him do his job understanding the transition to 6A is coming soon.  It is a good job with GREAT pay, but just like any other - has its own set of challenges.

Thank you. Its incredible to read any positive commentary about BH on SETXSports. BH is, after all the mosted hated and critiqued school/program/team in SETXSports history. So much of it is so stupid and wrong, but whatever, its just outsiders making noise.

What everyone misses is that while everyone really wants BH football to excel like Baseball and Softball has, football is not the tail that wags the dog in Mont Belvieu. Like I said a few weeks ago, even if someone somehow removed all sports from the school, BHISD and Mont Belvieu will continue to grow just because people seek great academics and a great community to raise families in. Our all aound sucessful athletics program is more icing on the cake.

Like someone else just said, things tend to "work out beautifully" in the end for BH, and I doubt that will change now. I'll wait and see with an open mind who the eventual hire is, and I will support him. I like having an open and fair mind. Challenges are ahead, no doubt, but BH has resources and tools to work with. I will really miss Carl Abseck. I wish none of this had happened. I think he is a great coach and man. God Speed coach, I wish you the best.

I will say this, BH has over achieved last couple of years. If you look at certain positions and the amount of injuries we’ve had to key players, I think Abseck did a great job. I know there were grumbling about the work hours for staff, but I would curious to see Abseck’s record at BH compared to the others. As far as the other stuff, rumors are rumors, and last I checked BH is still a great school district, and in great financial shape.

Grumbling about work hours from guys who have never worked at a State Championship level before. Everyone always wants the glory until it's time to put in the work.

Barbers Hill will get a quality coach, they pay too much...but it might end up this time being a guy on the tail end of his career looking to bolster his retirement...

The last two hires have state titles on the resume...will this guy have that type of resume?

I have the same thinking.

I’m thinking the opposite.. a young energetic quality OC/DC from a great program… but more so a “yes man” to the program.

If I were a parent of a player still, I wouldn’t want my son playing for a ‘yes man.’ I would prefer someone older who didn’t have to ‘play the game’, but could teach my son about life and still cared about winning—with character & pride. (If I had to choose between the two.)

Of course, I’d also prefer a Super who hired & trusted to let the hire do their job without interference.

Authority doesn’t give respect. Respect is earned when respect is given.

A. Superintendent
B. School Board Member(s)

D. All of the above
E. That never happens.

I'm going with D.

THIS. Its funny how some ISD's are a wreck, finacially and acedemically even to the point of being forced into state conservatorship, but BHISD is the open target here. If BH walked on water some posters here would claim "BH failed at swimming".

I don't think anyone here is arguing that the school district is bad.

Just not handling AD/HC's very well of late. That is on the school admins.

I would say in most cases it is b and c.  But In Barbes Hill's case it is A and B!!
