BADSANTA Posted January 27 Report Posted January 27 Who would be the favorite? We know they won't play and both teams are primed to make a deep playoff run if not advance to state. Who do you think would win if they did play? Its been at least 12 years or so since they have met. Im sure Silsbee leads this all-time series. Quote

Id say from 2016-2024 it would have been a very bad mismatch. It seems Kountze is back and it s great position to make it to state. Silsbee is still pretty solid after most would call this a rebuilding year. Quote
bullets13 Posted January 27 Report Posted January 27 I'd pick Kountze to win this year. That said, I haven't picked well. Quote

That was about the time Kountze started a downward spiral. The last 12 years would not have been good for Kountze had they played Silsbee. Hypothetically speaking (which is what this entire thread is about, hypo) I say Silsbee would be 5 point favorite. BADSANTA 1 Quote
rhino1877 Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 After seeing both play, I would give a slight edge to Kountze. It would be a great game to watch! AggiesAreWe 1 Quote
Sharpie98 Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 If they are shooting it well I would pick Kountze. Nothing against Silsbee of course, but if Kountze is shooting it well it’s gonna be tough. T-Lu 1 Quote

AggiesAreWe Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Warm up game ain't happening. It's kind of funny to me. I see lot's of Kountze folks on social media wanting this game to happen this year. But where were these people the last 12 seasons? Either play regularly or don't play at all. You can't "cherry pick" when or if you want to play. Take the bad with the good. A Silsbee fan did start this thread… But let’s be honest…other than maybe last season (Which in my opinion Silsbee probably would’ve won by 25 ish) What benefit would it have been to either team to play? It’s not cherry picking it’s wanting to play when it benefits both teams… Quote

Facebook, X and other platforms have plenty of this talk, mostly generated from Kountze peeps. I agree on that last statement. But I also know that most of the talk is about Kountze winning the game. Nothing about it benefitting both teams. Also, not really sure the game benefits Silsbee. Most teams they will face in playoffs do not do what Kountze does. Run diamond press all game. I would want to play a warm up game vs. a team that would play a style that causes Silsbee issues (half court game). Full court pressure is not that big a deal to Silsbee. I am old school. If I am a coach, I am not scheduling a game just for the fans. BBfan061 and BADSANTA 2 Quote

I am not against the two teams playing. But I am always for what the coach of a team thinks is best for his/her team. Quote

There is a difference with shooting open/transition 3s and shooting them with somebody on you man to man. It would be a good playoff atmosphere type game with a great crowd which I think is great in the regular season. Quote
Tigers94 Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Silsbee plays teams like West Brook and United (sometimes more than once) early in the year, every year, knowing they're going to lose way more often than not. We don't just decided to call them up for a game when we've got a good team. If Kountze wants to play, then lets make it a yearly ordeal. It could be a fun event. I'm not sure what the Lions have coming up in the lower ranks, so this may or may not be a good match up past this season. CJFoster01 and T-Lu 2 Quote

BADSANTA Posted January 29 Author Report Posted January 29 Over the last 12 seasons, those Tiger teams would have beat Kountze by 50-60 points and thats not being funny. This season would have been a decent match up but Silsbee would still win by 10. Kountze has had some incredible teams over the last 25 years. Quote

BADSANTA Posted January 30 Author Report Posted January 30 The last Kountze team outside of Arnold's junior and senior year i saw play was when Silsbee played them in 2010 at Lamar for a playoff warm up. Kountze had the kid who moved in from California and Silsbee had Stallworth, Thomas, Jones, Hill. Silsbee went to state that year and that Kountze team was upset in the 2nd round by New Waverly.
