Worst trade in the history of the NBA. Collusion, conspiracy theories, whatever, this makes no sense. I could write a novel about how bad this is. As a lifelong Mavs fan I’m gutted. I may never watch again. Imagine a world where Jerry Jones is no longer the worst and least liked GM in Dallas sports.

It makes zero sense.

The only two ways it makes sense is if the Dallas GM is colluding with the lakers and ends up there in the next couple of years, or more likely, if the new ownership group is trying to dry up the fan base and move the team to Vegas in a couple of years.

If they were insistent on making a trade, they could’ve gotten how many first round picks? 6? 8? And probably some decent pieces to go with it. Organizational malpractice

I can't believe the league is allowing the trade.

Horrible trade. They could have atleast out him on the block and got multiple 1st round picks. But you don’t trade the franchise player of your team. Absolutely makes no sense and makes me sick. Definitely not a Mavs fan anymore. We had tickets to go see them when I got off but won’t now.

Vegas 1000%

This was plan B after the Dallas stadium + casino plans got shut down

This is what happens when you get scumbag owners who don’t love the game

Yepp, they were silly to think gambling was ever going to be made legal in Texas.

Been a Mavs fan for almost 25 years, I’m done now though.

As a Rockets fan 🤣🤣🤣🤣

They must have been something for Luka to get traded and the mavs just gave up on him… his weight has always been a problem, lack of conditioning, very terrible effort on defense which they are claiming. He can score you 30 plus points any given night but also give up that same amount…

Having dug deep into this, it appears more than anything that the Mavs' GM just didn't like Luka. He likes to surround himself with "his guys." He'd already run off or fired everyone that Luka liked in the organization. Nico Harrison made this absolutely terrible trade, completed gutted the city, completely gutted the future of the franchise, and then cracked some dumb jokes. I really think he thought he'd done something good. Not only should he not have made the trade for ANYTHING, he got about 10-20% what he could've gotten for Luka had he put it out there around the league that he wanted to get rid of him. Usable parts combined with 7-8 future first rounders was likely. We got one talented, often hurt almost 32-year-old, and 1 draft pick in return. Even had to give up a 2nd rounder in the deal. The original deal was going to be 2-3 first rounders, AD, and Dalton Knecht. Still woefully inadequate in exchange for Luka, but twice as good as what that bum Nico got instead. He somehow got talked into taking less than the original. He should already be fired. He should've been fired for taking the offer to the owners in the first place. Unfortunately they're ignorant morons that didn't know any better. When your GM, who's supposedly good at his job, tells you that he's got a "win-now" move, I guess it sounds good if you don't know crap about basketball. Dude traded a "win-now" player for the next decade for a guy who doesn't make them any better even this season. I'm still so pissed about this whole thing.

EDIT: as to address your point directly: the mavs have had a top-5 defense WITH LUKA ON THE COURT since the trade deadline last season. His weaknesses on defense are well overblown, and that's also why they've ALREADY BUILT A DEFENSIVE TEAM AROUND HIM. Also, who gives a crap what he weighs. He can eat cheeseburgers and smoke cigs on the bench for all I care if he's giving you 30/9/9 a game. All of the points made by the Nico Harrison (because nobody else in the Dallas org wanted this besides Nico's inner-circle) are just BS excuses because he's so arrogant and ignorant that he really didn't think his decision would be that big of a deal, and he had to come up with something.

Just made another very questionable trade, Quentin Grimes for Caleb Martin. Contractually it makes some sense, but not when you just traded Luka effing Doncic to "win now." Saving that $345M by not having to give Luka a supermax, Grimes is exactly the type of player that the mavs should be looking to extend in the offseason. rather than trading for a lesser player with 3 years left on his contract.

I think it'll work out for Dallas more so than the Lakers if Dallas can stay healthy. I don't know if they'll get back to the Finals for a rematch versus my C's though.

I'm personally interested in where Jimmy Butler ends up this week.

Also: the Spurs got better with the addition of Fox.

Spurs making sneaky good moves. I give them that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy ended up in Orlando…

He is very arrogant… if Mavs win it all this year or next, he looks like the smartest man alive. Luka I bet now test free agency in the summer now… player option after this season right?

Luka and Wemby together in SA ???

Mavs were set up to be good for a decade. Harrison is completely blowing that up. They’ll have maybe a 2 year window where they’ll be really good, and then they’ll be absolute garbage again. And that’s if Kyrie takes the player option this summer. I highly doubt he will. He loved Luka like a brother. I think he’s gone as soon as he can be, success or not

I just seen that they were thinking about a move for KD now. That would be wild.

That would be… coming out of left field. I know the whole rockets was talking about before the season. But man that would be a crazy big 3

a good portion of Dallas fans don't care if the Mavs even make the playoffs this year. My two best friends from college and I have all been lifelong Mavs fans. We're actively rooting against them now. All three of us.  I get that it's a small sample size, but it's coming back with a 100% result. The average Dallas fan doesn't want to win a championship with this team. Adding KD would make it worse. He's one of the most hated players in the league, and Mavs fans are not in a welcoming mood. The Mavs were the most fun team in the NBA to watch, with one of the most passionate fan groups. The team was damn good, and only getting better. Once you factor in the players they'd have to trade off to bring in KD, you're literally looking at a 50-60% turnover of meaningful players on the roster in the space of a week, including the player who was basically the pride of the city. Nobody is going to get behind a team that wins when they don't have any sort of rooting interest in half the roster, especially when they're extremely bitter about how those players joined the roster to begin with. If you think I'm overreacting or being overdramatic, just go look at the posts from Mavs fans on twitter for the last 3 days.

I can't make myself like a houston team. I gave the spurs a thought.  What I'm really hoping is that Luka doesn't sign with LA when his contract expires. I could root for the nuggets with him and Jokic. I hate the Lakers almost as much as I hate Nico.
