I spoke to a few officials last night at the game I attended. They told me that OF leads the area in technical fouls for this season. 20+ so far. At least 10-12 in the last few weeks. This is a problem that needs correcting soon. Cu Chulainn, HarryDoyle, Bobcat1 and 1 other 4 Quote

Setxhasbeen Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 Where’s the disconnect coming from? Discipline, coaching, and or leadership on the court? Quote

There’s no discipline or accountability. Not even a little bit. I think it’s a perfect storm of the mixture of kids that are there now with the fact that the coach is really passive with the kids. On top of that the leadership roles on the court are ones getting the technicals. HarryDoyle 1 Quote
HarryDoyle Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 Were any players ever suspended? Or was it a different player every time? Either way that is not a good look on the coaching staff or OF as a whole. Random techs happen, but to have this many over a short stretch is a bad look. DP#1FAN and Drew Peacock 2 Quote
TxHoops Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 Some of this stuff has implications way past what these kids probably realize. I know a 6’7” kid from the Houston area that at one time held an A&M offer. Big kid, wide shoulders, can hit the three and was one of the better back to the basket players I have seen at his age. Kind of an Adrian Dantley/Alex English type game for some of you old heads. Anyway, I’m not sure he has any committable offers at this point. Even lost some Southland offers for jawing at his coach, refs, etc. And this is a 6’7” kid who would be more talented than most of the rosters in the Southland. Point being, college coaches are very attune to red flags in this day and age. And when you can recruit kids out of the portal, you better be squeaky clean as a high school kid, on and off the court. 5GallonBucket, DP#1FAN, Cat22 and 4 others 7 Quote

Not sure of any suspensions but haven’t seen any. There’s a couple of players that I would say have around 5 a piece (guessing). Mainly talking to refs, cussing, cussing at players/fans. Hopefully they can reel it in because it’s definitely gone a little too far and folks in town aren’t proud of it. HarryDoyle and DP#1FAN 2 Quote

Yeah some of the things that players have been heard saying are really bad… Kinda surprised some are still allowed to be playing based off what I’ve been told HarryDoyle 1 Quote

I don’t think anyone playing for Orangefield has to worry about that. No one on that team is D1. The T’s should stop for respect purposes Quote

Theres got to be some sort of consequences, and if there has been then it hasn't been harsh enough. Quote
DP#1FAN Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 If you are getting that many technical fouls. To me it's a sign that you are not disciplined or prepared. I coached for awhile and never got one but I had a player get one and he never got another because there are consequences for getting one if you know what I mean. For OF this will have to be corrected and it starts at the top. JMO Drew Peacock 1 Quote

And there was definitely some Southland interest earlier in the season or maybe earlier in the school year (which happens to be D1). I know that for a fact. I’m not sure that’s still the case. JMO Back in the Stone Ages when I was in school, any technical foul (or unsportsmanlike in football for similar behavior) usually ended with some vomiting by the offending player after the next practice. You’re right - it was a strong deterrent. Cu Chulainn 1 Quote
Bobcat101 Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 Something was definitely in the air over the last two weeks. Two different articles of Basketball parents & kids fighting. One kid came out of the stands & one parent was swinging at a player. 😳 Quote

buccaneers4lyfe Posted Sunday at 06:10 PM Report Posted Sunday at 06:10 PM I know this is a bad look, but do you think referees are prone to hand out these techs because of some of the issues they have "Heard" about? Ive seen a few referees locally over the years who will hand out techs like candy on Halloween. Quote
