Keep forgetting about D1 vs D2. What a joke, totally waters down the playoffs...in 5A especially where there is only a few decent teams in the entire region combined.  Skipping a round to boot to get to semifinals.  Sad

It is sad. Micromanagement run wild at the UIL. Its making things laughable at this point.

Confused me when I first saw it as I don’t keep up with basketball as much as football, baseball & softball. Looked at the bracket & said ‘what the?’

Glad the girls are still playing though. Another District Championship for LP as well. Wouldn’t have any issues with BH & LP both getting SC’s. Would actually be kinda’ neat. 😀

I think it was just a few years ago BH vs LP was a first round playoff matchup now both in regional finals because they are two of the only decent programs in 5A region 3 that got split by D1 and D2.  The Beaumont United team from that same year would run every team in this years region out of the gym by 30 plus.

I would like to try to get to a game at Bulldog Centre one day. Don’t care who is playing really. (Although, a decent matchup would be nice.)

I’ve seen pics & seen outside. Been told it’s as nice as many college venues. It looks nice from the pics I’ve seen.

I was looking at stats from their district. I thought Hendrickson would be a very tough matchup for the Lady Dawgs. But, after seeing what BH did to Pflugerville, not sure about the real strength of that district. We’ll see. Hopefully, the ladies can pull out a win and advance.

The UIL is still the adminstrative party, correct? If things are just going to be run by a popular vote of the coaches, why have the UIL anyway?

To be honest none of the three teams (SF, Huntsville, Pflugerville) BH has faced so far have impressed me much. Last night Pflugerville struggled a lot. I wondered about the strength of their district too. The game was not as close as the score. That, and I give BH credit for playing well. Its about to get tougher for sure.

Agreed.  Honestly, BH missed a lot of open and easy shots too.  It could have easily been a 30+ point win.

Of course they do, it makes it a whole lot easier. BH coach already crowing about going to regional semifinals 3 years in a row but left out the fact he got to skip an entire round this year and faced much weaker competition.

That place is first class, not sure how they pulled the funds to build it but its a better arena than Lee College.  I am shocked you have not been there.  LaPorte also fully funds and staffs LPsportsnet which streams all home games to YouTube and logs them. It looks like a Espn broadcast, it is very well done. Nobody can match the facilities and the streaming capability that LaPorte has, it is very well done.

So the 4th place team out of their district with 15-11 and 7-5 district record in Rudder is who BH has to play to win regionals?  Unreal how thin the split divisions have made 5A. SMH

We watch LPSportsnet. NFHS for out of town games when we can since they have all sports. It’s very difficult for me to take my wife out, and I can’t leave her alone.

How on earth did 15-11 4th place Rudder beat a 34-4 Bastrop team by 20?  Thats crazy.

it kinda depends on the situation. in some cases it works out that way, and in some cases you end up with first round matchups that feel like they should be regional finals matchups. Some of that also has to do with the weakness of the region in general. One thing is for sure, none of these kids will complain if they make it to state, and it's not so watered down that they shouldn't be proud of their accomplishments. Any team that can win 6 straight playoff games deserves to be recognized. Sometimes you get a lucky road to state, and sometimes you face a gauntlet. Rudder taking out Bastrop was certainly a fortunate break for BH. Also not really sure what the issue with the head coach "crowing" about three in a row considering they went the last two years against tougher competition and not skipping a round.
