UT alum Posted Wednesday at 08:45 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 08:45 PM I have suggested this before and been roundly chided by the crowd here. The new Secretary of Defense has just ordered 8% be cut from the military budget for each of the next five years. That’s over $300 billion. Why is it okay because Trump wants it? Sounds like a Putin dream come true. If anyone here defends this, you are nothing but a shameless sycophant. Quote
baddog Posted Wednesday at 08:51 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 08:51 PM I’ve been complaining about $500 hammers and screwdrivers for decades. Stop trying to elevate yourself over everyone else. Shameless????? Quote

If they want to cut building ships, tanks, boots on the ground, etc.....I disagree no matter who suggest it. If they want to cut waste AFTER an audit determining waste, then I'm for it. The never Trumpers are looking for anyway to disagree with everything this administration is doing, but when you look at just about any poll, the majority of Americans like the approach Trump and the Republicans are taking. Latest CNN poll of people who self identify as Dem vs Rep: 2017 Democrats +5 2021 Democrats +6 Feb: 2025 - Republicans +2 (that's an 8 point swing, pretty easy math) Quote

CNN poll today, 52% disapproval. Quote

BTW -- Trump has done more in 1 month then JoeBama did in 4 years. Would you agree? Quote

The US is currently spending about $850 - $900B. I think the 2025 budget is sitting at $900B. That’s more the next six highest countries combined. Four of those six are allies. China and Russia can combine their annual military spending and it doesn’t equal the US. In fact the US budget is 300+% more than Russia. If Russia is licking their lips thinking that the US military is suddenly threadbare then they had better take a closer look. Assuming the cuts go through, the US will spend about $840B next year and Russia will spend $225B with much of that tied up in Ukraine. Gee, we are only outspending Russia by a little over $600B. That is why the US has 11 nuclear super carriers in different battle groups while Russia and China have…. zero nuclear carriers of the three oil burners that they have combined. Your sycophant isn’t wearing well. Maybe you can google another word thetragichippy 1 Quote

mat Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago I don’t know the details but budget cuts don't always translate into wiser spending. I’m not in favor of a budget cut for the military. I’m in favor of a spending overhaul. Quote

He said while it could be called a cut, it was more of reassigning funds from non-lethal DEI projects to lethal priorities or training and supplies. He also listed things that would not be on the table. It sounded good to me. tvc184 1 Quote

I know in my police department they were spending about $200,000 annually on typists that we didn’t need. It was nothing but a jobs program at the taxpayers’ expense. While we don’t want to cut patrol officers or detectives, there is still waste. thetragichippy 1 Quote
