Another thing they could do with the monies used to secure the border and borne by the Texas taxpayer that is being reimbursed is to give the money back to the Texas taxpayer. Smh...

Whatever happened to lottery money funding the schools? We’re talking $billions upon $billions. Also, here’s an article my wife found on Texas Educators board:

It isn't just about voucher money, its also about the bureaucracy which is created to run it, bet you forgot that is also part of this crony scheme. The governor has decided that TEA is not competent enough to manage the funds, get them into the right hands, and keep the correct receipts. So, Texas is going full blown venture capitalist with corporation that specializes in voucher management. This is not yet been a realized cost of the voucher system, but it will be substantial. This begins the Great Texan Fleecing, and I am not meaning the football team, but us folks that call themselves Texans.

Well I researched my own question with a simple google search and WOW.......We are throwing A LOT of money at schools in Texas.....

 for fiscal year 2023, the majority of the revenue (about 67%) went toward paying out winners. About a quarter of the money (24.5%) went toward Texas education via the Foundation School Fund, which is roughly $2.1 billion.

 

 

With Texas schools required to provide 180 days of instruction per school year, a $2.1 billion contribution from the lottery would help the state cover roughly five-and-a-half days’ worth of funding.

 

According to the Lottery Commission, the lotto has contributed a total of $31.8 billion to the Foundation School Fund since 1997.

So how would this work locally?  Kid goes to BISD and wants to get out.  Is it Kelly or Legacy and that's it?  Both of those are probably more than the voucher would be.  And I think the private elementary and middle schools are already busting at the seams.

Possibly, if Kelly or Legacy would even accept them. It’s not like they have to, and they’re gonna avoid having their scores go down unless it’s a good athlete or something.

So in that case, if there is nowhere to go would the family just get to keep the 10K or whatever the provided amount is?  It seems that locally there aren't very many options, unlike a city like Houston or Austin.

Nope. And private schools will increase tuition next year as well to make more money. The main purpose of this is to give the wealthy a rebate, nothing more.

Good point.  I was curious how that would work.  So it kind if turns into sports recruiting?  Could the voucher money be used to pay the open enrollment fee at say, East Chambers or Fannett or HJ?

Hardin-Jefferson is no longer open enrollment.

Also, I was told HF will no longer be open enrollment. 

Not sure about EC.

Vouchers would apply to open enrollment fees.

Why would voucher money go to a public school? I thought each school got a certain amount for each student.

So if a kid left HF and went to HJ, his standard fee from the state would follow him.

Correct?

I really have no idea. I was just wondering if the voucher would cover the open enrollment fee at the other district?  Being that locally the private school options are very very limited.

As it is now, some open schools have a tuition. You have to pay and the district still gets state funding. The same could apply under the voucher plan.
